Greeta Sue Martin

Greeta was born Greeta Sue Etheridge to George Monroe Etheridge and Lucinda (Hopson) Etheridge, on May 20, 1928 in Rising Star, Texas. She passed on to heavenly home on December 28, 2017.

She grew up in Texas, Arizona and California. Greeta graduated from Clovis High School in 1947 and then attended Fresno State College where she met her future husband, John Martin. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education.
In 1953 she and John were married. The briefly lived in Illinois while he served in the Navy. Their first child, David was born in 1955 while they were in Illinois. Their daughter Susan was born 1964.

After teaching elementary school for eleven years in the Fresno area she became a full time homemaker. Later on she loved spending time with her seven grandchildren, Allison and husband Justin Gilliam, Brian, Elaine and Bobby Vollmer, Shai, Twiniqua and Marquise Martin. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Luke and Zachary Gilliam, and Arielle Tisdale.
Greeta was a devoted Sunday School teacher for over 60 years. One of the things she looked forward to each summer was the family's yearly trips to Santa Cruz.

Greeta was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and two sisters, Louise Linn and Bettie Bennett. In addition to her grandchildren and great grandchildren she is survived by her son David and wife Barbara Martin and daughter Susan and husband James Ziebell.

A viewing will be held at Lisle Funeral Home, 1605 "L" Street, Fresno, CA from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm, on Friday, January 5, 2018 for anyone wishing to pay their respects.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at Fresno Memorial Gardens, 175 S. Cornelia Ave, Fresno, CA at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 6, 2018. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 am at New Heights Baptist Church, 6385 N. Fresno St., Fresno, CA
