Gregory Lewis Wells

On September 4, 2023, we unexpectedly lost Gregory "Greg" Lewis Wells, our much-loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.

Greg was born to Shirley (Freed) and James Wells on March 27, 1958. Greg had the opportunity to live all over the country because his father was in the Air Force. Eventually, they settled near Marysville, California.

Greg graduated from Wheatland High School in 1976, where he participated in sports such as wrestling and cross-country as well as in marching band as a trumpeter. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America through his teenage and young adult years, and became an Eagle Scout. Greg was even a 50-mile back country guide for several summers at Glacial Trails Scout Ranch near Truckee, CA where he developed a life-long love of camping, hiking, and fishing. Throughout his life, he shared many of these adventures with his family and friends.

Greg met his future wife, Alaire, when they worked together at Brandley Engineering. They were married on April 28, 1984, and settled in Rosemont where he was an active community member. He later began working at Cooper, Thorne, and Associates, also a civil engineering and surveying company, where he worked for more than 30 years. He handled projects in the Sacramento, El Dorado, and Placer County areas.

Greg's favorite baseball team was the Los Angeles Dodgers and he volunteered and coached for the local softball and baseball leagues where his daughter and son played. Greg was also a president of the Sacramento Girls Softball League. He cherished going to baseball games with his family and friends. In addition, Greg's children showed interest in soccer, so he became a coach for his son's Rosemont community soccer team.

Greg is survived by his wife Alaire (Kaiser) of 39 years; two children Sarah (Anthony) Wells and James (Mystic) Wells; grandchildren Stephen, Mikayla, Xander, and Iris; his brother Christopher Wells; and countless friends, colleagues, and neighbors.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall of 2023.
