Family-Placed Obituary

NADEL, Harold Former English instructor at Miami University Middletown died June 15, 2007 at his home in San Francisco. He was born February 8, 1939 in Newark, New Jersey the only child of Edward and Sylvia Nidal, both deceased. He received a BA in English from Rutgers University, won a Woodrow Wilson scholarship to John Hopkins where he earned his Masters. He completed all but his dissertation for a PhD at University of Indiana, Bloomington while teaching there. He later taught at Wabash College. A lover of books, music, his deck garden, a linguist, passionate about language, he was an editorial assistant for C&T Publishing and the Quilt Digest Press, co-founded by one of his former students. He wrote several books as well as mentoring persons who became authors. Left to mourn his death are countless friends, former students and colleagues, privileged to have enjoyed Harolds' erudition and wit and those who benefitted from his understanding and encouragement: Kerry Acor, Euguenia Fox, Saundra Ross, Jan and Ron Fetzer, Mark and Zita Plageman, Christine Parker, Eleanor Stewart, Bob McCloskey, Fran Bennett, Clare Easton, Lois LaFayette and a friend for whom we are all thankful for being a caring, helpful friend to Harold, Michele McCloskey and of course, his beloved companion, a true joy in his last years, his cat, Truffle, and many others who have lost the man to listen.
