Harriett Rogers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2006.
Harriett C. Rogers, 88, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born Feb. 8, 1918, in Niagara Falls, the daughter of Earl D. and Agnes (Cameron) Rogers. In 1930, when Harriett was 12, her mother predeceased her. Harriett and her father moved to Oneonta to live with his mother and stepfather.
Harriett graduated from high school in Oneonta and went to work for the Citizens Bank as a bank teller in Oneonta, which later became the Key Bank, where she worked for many years un-til she retired in 1980. She also volunteered for The Salvation Army throughout her life.
Harriett loved life. She had a wonderful attitude and was very independent. She had chal-lenges as well as triumphs in her life but never let the difficulties of life defeat her.
She loved people and they loved her. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Har-riett had a sweet disposition and a sweet smile.
Upon arriving at the nursing home, she made many friends with other residents there as well as the staff. She had a generous heart and she appreciated in turn the kindnesses that were shown to her.
Harriett enjoyed listening to music, classical as well as other kinds of music, reading (she was a voracious reader, educating herself on many subjects _ even though she did not attend col-lege, she was very well read), shopping and eating out.
She loved to travel. She visited every state in the union, (except for Alaska), and the Canadian Rockies. In 1971, she and her father joined her very dear friends, Joyce and her mother, Addie, on a trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
In later years, she enjoyed going to antique auctions and going to flea markets where she sold some of these items. She took great pride in making her display attractive and received compli-ments for her creative efforts. Here again, she enjoyed interacting with the public.
Anyone who knew Harriett will always remember her sense of humor, her appreciation of a good joke, her lifelong love of cats, her love of color (especially red), and her creativity.
Harriett is survived by one cousin, Rita Cameron of Tonawanda; and her very dear friend, Joyce Anderson and her daughter, Emily, of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif.; as well as several other friends and neighbors.
She was predeceased by her father, Earl D. Rogers, on Oct. 1, 1980.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, in the Glen-wood Cemetery with John Truscott, Presbyterian lay preacher, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harriett's name may be made to the SPCA, 4841 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, NY, 13326.
Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

I only knew Harriett for a few years and in those years I seen how Harriett was a very sweet, soft spoken, lovable woman. She was friendly among others and shared a great bond with another.

She was one who had the nicest clothes and things. She was always getting complimented on how she looked and what she had. There was one specifiic hat that comes to mind--a big floppy pink one. Someone had taken one of her necklaces and put it around the head part to give it a little more something--it looked very nice and she loved it.

I am deeply sorry for your loss.

She is truly missed.
