STOKESDALE Mr. Harry William Morrison, of Stokesdale, North Carolina, died Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at the age of 90. An avid golfer for much of his life, Mr. Morrison very much enjoyed playing with the senior golf group at Bryan Park in Greensboro and appreciated the friendship and camaraderie of his companions. Mr. Morrison was born to parents Harry H. and Mae Lynch Morrison on July 8, 1928, in Newark, New Jersey and was the eldest of eight children. In 1945, he moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, where he attended Greensboro Senior High School and lettered in basketball, football, and baseball. Upon graduation from high school in 1947, he attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Guilford College before joining the Marines during the Korean War. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to New Jersey and began his business career as a sales representative for several large appliance manufacturers. In 1967, he married Virginia Krueger, the mother of his three children. Mr. Morrison was preceded in death by Virginia K. Morrison, his first wife, in 1993. He is survived by his second wife of 16 years, Anne Van Horn Mims Morrison, of Stokesdale, North Carolina; his three children Robert F. Morrison (wife Beth) of New Jersey, Carole Benardella (husband Lawrence) of New Jersey, and Susan Dubrow (husband Robert) of California and their children Zoe and Jeffrey; sister Arlene Pettinelli (husband Odero) of Pennsylvania; sister Florence Rickerhauser of New Jersey; sister Ellen Holdsworth of New York; brother Al Morrison (wife Mary Ann) of New York; brother Bart Morrison (wife Susan) of Florida; sister-in-law Linda Morrison of New York; sister-in-law June Van Horn Brehm of North Carolina; and, various nieces and nephews. A memorial service and inurnment ceremony will be held in New Jersey at a later date. The family is grateful for condolences and requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charitable organization of the donor's choice.
