Harry was my handball partner for over ten years. He was always smiling and kind to me even though he beat me in handball on most occasions. Great memories.

To some he was Dr. Specht, to others, Uncle Doc or simply H.O. But no matter which hat you found him wearing, one thing is certain, Harry Specht was always a generous soul. Along with his wife, Barney, he was ever ready to assist a friend or loved-one in need. He was there when you wanted a listening ear. If you needed instruction or had a question Harry was quick to share his knowledge on any subject. He was generous with praise and support. He was giving of his time. He was gracious in his general speech and in his assessments of others. In my own life Harry was there at all the critical junctures, present to provide reflection and guidance but also to inspire and challenge. He always wrote thoughtful letters and read responses carefully. He welcomed me into his favorite hobby, tropical fish keeping. He gave me some starter fish and provided my first couple tanks. He then connected me to the resources, the key people and the organizations that enabled my growth as a hobbyist. By exposing me to a variety of music, books, films and magazines, Harry broadened my view of the world, deepening my respect for both the arts and the sciences. Harry taught me how to treat others. He taught me how and when to sing, to laugh, to chuckle, to whistle and to smile. His generosity expanded and enriched my world. I'm sure many can say the same. We are all better for having known him.

it's still so hard to believe that Uncle Doc, the patriarch of our family, has left this earth and family that he loved so much. He was the first human to touch me having been my doctor from birth to my mid twenties. i have great memories of spending time with my Sarasota family as a child and a large number of those memories involve my Aunt Barney and Uncle Doc. From late night swims after his hospital rounds to DQ dilly bars and walking Koko around the block while learning about the Pleiades and Orion's Belt, he always found time to teach me something or to just make me feel special and good about myself. i always loved hearing his familiar whistle and riding around town with him in the Lincoln. there are so many memories and they are ALL good. i regret not having been closer to him over the last so many years. he was truly one of the best men that i have ever known and i am so thankful for all that he has done for my family over the years. my sincerest condolences go out to Steve, Julie, David and Amy and their families. the world lost a great man. Uncle Doc, you are loved by many and will be greatly missed!

Uncle Harry. Became Uncle Doc to the younger ones and that name stuck. My cousin made a comment that he can still hear him whistling. And I still see the smile. Always made our outings an adventure. And taught us that everywhere we go, we should learn something.

Dr. Specht was my personal doctor during my time in Sarasota while serving as a pastor. I played handball with him and Dr. Carlson and Jim Tollerson for 13 years. He was always a gentleman and wore a smile all the time.

Deepest sympathies on the passing of OUR Dr. Specht. I grew up with Dr. Specht as a neighbor, the Martin Street gang! He was such a kind man, great husband, and loving father of Steve, Julie, David and Amy. H.O. is bellying up to that Heavenly bar with OUR Martin Street gang...my parents, May, Phil, Barnie, Mr. Bradley, Mrs. Barnes, The Actins, Cindy & Dwight. I'm sure there are others that are from OUR Gang on Martin Street, but just wanted to mention a few that are embracing Dr. Specht. He's together with Barnie now, RIP to OUR dear Dr. Specht, thanks for the memories!
