Henry W. “Hank” Hartig, Jr. died Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln surrounded by loved ones. He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on November 30, 1924 to Henry and Berniece (Coffey) Hartig, Sr. He grew up in Marysville, Kansas, the oldest of ten children. He graduated from Marysville High School in 1942 and attended Kansas State University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served in the United States Navy Naval Air Service during World War II where his love of airplanes and flying was born. On April 24, 1944 he married Darlene Fisher in Marysville, Kansas. They were married 58 years until her death in 2002. In 1948, Hank and Darlene moved to Hastings, Nebraska where they made their home for nearly 50 years before moving to Lincoln. He worked as a mechanic and service manager in Hastings.



Hank was a member of the First United Methodist Churches in Hastings and Lincoln. He enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and ten countries. His favorite place to visit was Alaska where his brothers Bob and Ed lived with their families.



Hank was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene, his parents, five brothers – Charles, Bob, Ed, Gene and Raymond, his niece Lisa Miller Bowker and four nephews: Randy Miller, Alan Wisemiller, Charles Hartig, Jr. and Alan Hartig. He is survived by his daughters Sheri (Ron) Karr of Holdrege, Jan and Paula Hartig of Lincoln, grandsons Todd (Pam Baccam) Karr of Lincoln, Chad Karr of Kearney, and Jeff Karr of Pierre, South Dakota, great-grandchildren Kyler and Sumalee Karr of Lincoln, his brother, David (Kay) Hartig of Burnet Texas, three sisters: Ski (Galen) Miller of Aurora, Iva (John) Hargreaves of Rochester, Minnesota, Mariann (Dean) David of Emmett, Idaho, his sisters-in-law Delma Hartig of Lincoln, Alice Hartig of Anchorage, Alaska, JoAnn Hartig of Cooper Landing, Alaska, and Ruth Wisemiller of Sabetha, Kansas, many nieces and nephews, and special friend Arlene Kort of Hastings.



Memorials may be given to the family for the Darlene and Henry Hartig Memorial Nursing Scholarship at the Bryan College of Health Sciences.



At Hank’s request, there will be a graveside service at Lincoln Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, with military honors. Visitation will be at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 28 and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service. Friends and family may gather at Gate 1 at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. A Celebration of Hank’s Life will follow the graveside service.
