My mom Hellen and my sisters were next door neighbors with the Cerda family. When Isabel started making the tortillas we would smell them and run to the fence and wait, she always came out and gave each of us tortillas and just smile. When Carlos & I married, she took care of Charlie, he called her mom even before he called me mom. Charlie ran away from home at the age of 2 and went over to his moms house. She has been through 2 generations of our famiy. Now she will again be neighbors with our mom Hellen, Our prayers are with you, Carlos & Darlene Juarez

I was the skinniest kid on the block until Isabel starting babysitting me! I used to come over to her house with my can of bean & bacon soup for lunch, but she would always make fresh tortillas and fresh refried beans everyday. Some days she even treated me with sugar tortillas!
She was the sweetest woman. I have many fond memories of her, from cooking in her kitchen to cutting cactus and cilantro in her garden & doing her laundry with that roller washer that fascinated me so!
My prayers are with the family. I know too well the pain of losing a mother. God bless you all.

My sincerest condolences to the entire Cerda and Alcorta families. I will miss seeing her at our family reunions in San Antonio. Tia Chavela reminded me so much of my Grandma Valtierra. I’m sorry that we can’t make it to California to pay our last respects but we will be there in spirit and I think my dad (Albert) is planning to fly in Monday morning. I will pray for all of you that God will be with each and every one of you during this time of sorrow. Rest in peace Tia.
