I have fond memories of my time at Thunderbird, my first Fall 1978 semester when I lived in a house five miles from campus - driving in the wee hours of the morning north to Glendale along 59th Avenue, the acrid smell and taste of crop duster pesticide as I drove past freshly sprayed cotton fields, arriving on campus before daybreak to find an unlocked classroom to plug in my cassette player and listen to the latest Arabic dialogue to refresh my memory and prepare for morning language class with our Arabic Language Professor Dr. ISSA (BOUTROS) PETERS. I will always remember Issa as a very kind and gentle individual. He will be missed. I attach an image of the Krak des Chevaliers in Syria, very close to Issa's childhood home, the town of Al-Mishtaya.

Dr. Peters was my Arabic professor at Thunderbird in 1985. I learned a great deal under him and moved to live in Saudi Arabia 1986-2006. I now speak Arabic fluently due to the "jump start" he gave me. I'm still not very good in reading or writing Arabic, but that's on me! My very belated condolences to his family.

It was always a pleasure when uncle Issa came to visit us back home. He walked around carrying such a light sincere and positive aura; his smile so contagious. Time spent with him was always special and precious. Hopefully his memory stays vibrant and alive in the minds of those who knew him. May he rest in peace and love.

Dear Ghada, George, Janie & Family,
I have many treasured memories of Uncle Issa. Being the only sibling my father had in the US made him extra special to us. My father was very proud of his younger brother and his academic achievements. His visits were always a big event with my mother preparing all of Issa's favorite food and entertaining a house full of visitors. Each visit would leave us with something humorous to reminisce about. I also have special memories of visits with my uncle in the various states he resided. He was a people person who was interested in everyone he met. He never failed to ask about each & everyone in each conversation. My uncle was fun loving, sweet and kindhearted. I will especially miss his big smile and boisterous laugh. Godspeed Uncle Issa to his heavenly kingdom! You will be in my heart forever.
My love and deep sympathy,
Jayne

Issa was a beautiful man with a warm smile and kind heart. He was a wonderful conversationalist, always eager to learn about others. We will always cherish the many fun times we´ve shared and miss him dearly. Until we meet again, Issa, rest in peace.
