James Thomas Dill

Dill James Thomas Dill, age 69, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 17, 2016. Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 6, 1946 to Thomas and Rose Ann Dill. He is a 1964 graduate of St. Charles Preparatory School and a 1972 graduate of The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Economics. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the 9th Infantry division as part of the Mobile Riverine Force during the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. Jim was well decorated for his service in Vietnam, including 3 Bronze Stars (2 with Valor). Jim is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Rose Ann Dill, father-in-law Richard Sharp. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 41 years, Debra K. Dill; daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Trent Elmquist; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Megan Dill; sons, Joshua and Thomas Dill; grandchildren, Evan and Libby Elmquist; brother, Jerry Dill (Eileen); sister, Cathy Goudy (Jack); mother-in-law, JoAnn Sharp; sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Linda Sharp; brother-in-law, Jeffrey Sharp (Eleanor); many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. He put everyone else first and was the most selfless, loving man. He traveled frequently with Debra to their favorite vacation spot, Isle of Palms, SC. Jim was proud to have earned All Central Catholic League honors during his football career at St. Charles. His love for football continued throughout the rest of his life while cheering on his Ohio State Buckeyes. Since retiring in 2010 from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, "Papa" loved spending time with his grandchildren who were the light of his life. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday May 23, 2016 at Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, Ohio 43065. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church on Lytham, 2300 Lytham Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43220 with Pastor Buff Delcamp officiating.
