James Garner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 26 to Jan. 27, 2012.
James Lynn Garner, a Christian and a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away peacefully late Sunday evening, Jan. 22, 2012, during his 63rd year, following a courageous six-month battle with cancer. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper, with Jeremy Blackwell officiating. His family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society, in Jim's memory, is suggested. Born in Fort Worth on July 29, 1948, Jim was the son of Raymond Elder Garner Jr. and Dorothy Hannock Garner. He was a 1966 graduate of Everman High School. After attending TCJC and Texas Wesleyan University, Jim began a lifelong career in sales. He was an avid golfer and a funny, kind, witty and intelligent man. Jim was a great mentor to many young family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray, in 1994, and his brother, Bob, in 2001. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Baylor All Saints Oncology Unit for their dedication, support and exemplary care during his illness. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Tina, Jim is survived by his daughter, Jamie Lauren Garner; stepson, Daniel Taylor and his wife, Autumn; grandchildren, Kole and Kaden Taylor; mother, Dorothy Garner; sister, Nancy Garner; mother-in-law, Bobbie Laymance; several cousins; many nieces and nephews and their families; and friends.
