James Horner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2011.
Mr. James Leo Horner, 66, passed away after a five month battle with lung cancer. He fought a valiant fight, but lost the battle the evening of September 29, 2011.

Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul Horner and Carrie Bates Horner. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Kathy) Horner, sons Randy Horner (Lori) and their children Adam and Lindsey, Paul Dillard, Mark Dillard and Lee Horner (Lynnette), sisters Pauline Tilley, and Peggy Jean (Billy) McCoy, plus nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Centerville High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served honorably during the Vietnam War. After Jim's service to his country, he had a 30 year career with Delta Air Lines in Technical Operations as an Aircraft Mechanic, Project Manager and Lead Mechanic.

Jim never met a stranger, was quick to laugh and had a great sense of humor. He had a sincere interest in other people and always put his family first. Jim was a loving, fun-loving, kind and generous man. He always wanted to hear news and updates from family and friends even when he was so sick. He had many interests including his dogs, Peanut and Snoopy James; golf; fishing; hunting; boating; traveling all over the world; fine dining; poker including playing while on cruises and trips to gambling resorts with friends; bridge; NASCAR; beaches; snow skiing; watching birds; he enjoyed taking care his flower garden and photographing them as well. Jim had also been active with the Shriners. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.

A memorial service, with Rev. Carolynne Williams officiating, will be held on October 15th at 2PM in the chapel of H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill in Marietta. At a later date some of his ashes will be scattered over Beaver Dam Creek, his boyhood fishing hole; his remaining ashes will be buried in Centerville, TN.

Flowers may be sent or donations may be made in his memory to the Humane Society of Cobb County, 148 Fairground St. SE, Marietta, GA 30060 or made online at www.humanecobb.com.

It's hard to believe it's been almost a year since your sweet Jim left this earth to reside with our God. He's a happy camper and we all know that. Hopefully over time that thought will bring you some peace and comfort. We all love you and are here for you whenever you need us.

I have not seen or spoken to Jim in many years. I was shocked to hear of his passing. Jim was a good friend and a very upbeat person when we worked together at Delta line. I am sorry over your loss.

Kathy,
Scott and I have so many memories of Jim and have been spending lots of time remembering each precious one. The thing that Scott and I loved about Jim the most was his straightforward honesty. He said what he meant and meant what he said. A true and rare quality that we so admire. God bless you and keep you during this difficult time. Our love and thoughts are with you always.

Dear Kathy,
I was saddened to learn Jim lost his battle as he was such a wonderful person. I only had the pleasure of his company on one occasion when you were in Cincinnati for a visit. But, he was delightful in every way and I know how special he was to have been loved by you. I wish I lived closer so I could be with you in your time of grief. Know I am holding you close in my heart and in my prayers.
With much love,

To my wonderful sister Kathy, as you know Jim was deeply loved by all who knew him. He was the perfect brother-in-law and it was our joy to know him and share some of your too short time together. He was always warm, caring, lively, involved and tremendous fun. We were so lucky to know him and are heartsore at his absence. He was so strong and inspiring during his illness,as were you. May God grant you peace and courage at this time. Jim lives on in your love and the love of his family and friends. Be with God. All our love, Margaret & Rashi Glazer
