James David Jordan

JORDAN, James David, age 55, of Kettering, passed away on August 2, 2014 from lung cancer. Born September 29, 1958 in Dayton to John (Jack) and Helen Duke Jordan, he is survived by his mother, sister, Janet Lee Jordan of Columbus, Ohio and brother, John Edgar (Dawne) Jordan Jr. and family of Houston, Texas. Jim was a talented musician who played several brass instruments in the Fairmont West High School (Kettering) band and graduated in 1977. His love of music combined with his interest in history led to him playing the flute and later the fife in American Revolutionary War re-enactments. Classical, blues, jazz and even polka music were amongst his favorites. He studied electrical engineering at Wright State University and interned at the TVA in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Aviation was an important part of the Jordan family history and he frequently attended the Dayton air show with his family. Hiking and sailing were other activities he loved, especially the Clifton Gorge and Cowen Lake areas. Jim was a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering. Private burial will be at David's Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service celebrating his life at Christ UMC Chapel, 3440 Shroyer Rd., Kettering, Ohio 45429, on Saturday, August 9 at 2:30 pm, with Pastor Alan Carroll officiating.
