James Paro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 9, 2010.
Funeral services for James E. Paro, 77, of Nacogdoches, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nacogdoches, Texas. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches. James passed away November 7, 2010, in Nacogdoches. James was born April 17, 1933, in Faribault, Minnesota, to Clyde and Madge Fent Paro. Jim was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was not afraid to speak his mind, give his opinions and tell what he liked. He had a God-given gift, being a good storyteller -- stories so long he would put you to sleep. He never met a stranger. He served in the U.S. Navy as a fireman third class, from 1952 until 1956, and received an honorable discharge. While in the Navy, he traveled to 15 different countries on the Atlantic Ocean with the 6th Fleet. After leaving the Navy, he attended bricklaying school and worked as a professional bricklayer for 25 years in Springfield, Mo., where was also a dairy and beef farmer for 10 years. Before retiring, he worked in the maintenance department at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for 15 years. Jim was an avid NASCAR fan for years and attended NASCAR events in Talladega, Alabama, with his son, Brad. He was a coin collector and had numerous old coins in his collection. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lorraine Paro; daughter, Linda Pierce of Springfield, Mo.; son, Mike Paro of Buffalo, Mo.; son, Brad Paro of Nacogdoches, Texas; daughter, Denise Paro of Nacogdoches, Texas, daughter, Anita Stokes of Nacogdoches, Texas, daughter, Amy Thompson of Choudrant, La.; daughter, Delcie Paro of Nacogdoches, Texas; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Madge Fent Paro; son, Kevin Paul Paro; and daughters, Monica Jean Paro and Lisa Paro Rice. Pallbearers will be Charles J. Paro, Keith D. Paro, Kevin M. Paro, Casey J. Stokes, Jeremy W. Davis and Jack W. Noble. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Condolences can be offered at www.casonmonk-metcalf.com. Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.

We here in Mo, we feel the loss too. I can still hear his laugh. I can almost see him slipping his sandwich underneath a pair of under shorts in the kitchen at the old place near the highway. I can see him giving the kids money to go to Billups for some goodies, and I can see him striking up a conversation with anyone who happened to pass by. Oh but mostly I can still hear his laugh and see his smile. That incredible smile, heck you couldn't help but smile back when Jim was smiling.

I remember when I had Rachel, he bought ME a gift, and said, "You're the one who did all the work, I wanted to get YOU something." I'll never forget that. He really loved us girls and he made sure we knew it, not always in obvious ways, but in his way.

I remember when Jim and Lorraine came to our house for dinner one time. Lorraine had cooked it and brought it, it was shortly after Rachel was born and she helping me out, she really is the greatest Mother-in-law on the planet. Anyway, after dinner we were visiting and Jim just got up and went out side and started the car...And Lorraine said, "Well, I guess I better go, it looks like I might miss my ride if I don't." He had a unique way about him in most everything that he did.

And he was smart, man he was smart, his philosophies and theories about the way things were and the way things aught to be, they were truly divergent and original. The man had original thought, and that's something that is extremely rare.

We love you guys, and we miss you. Grammy, Rachel, Mitch and Sam love you to pieces, and hope you are doing okay.

Aw Lorraine I wish I could hug you, (Mike, please hug your mama for me. She was always so good to me.)

Papa Jim, Rachel, Mitch and Sam...and Lori love you, may your spirit fly free and know that you are well loved.
