Jane Fraser Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 25, 2016.
Jane Fraser, 97, passed away peacefully at home July 24, 2016 in Houston.

Born January 11, 1919 to Frederick John and May Willse Strowbridge. Jane graduated high school at 16. She attended Sam Houston State Teachers College, where she met her future husband, Daniel Philip Fraser. They married in 1941. Jane first worked for the Army while Philip was stationed in Palacios. She then worked for the Navy in Orange, TX while he was stationed overseas.

After the war Phil and Jane set up home in Houston and she was happiest when their house was full of family and friends. An avid reader, Jane enjoyed playing bridge and needlepointing. Jane and Phil were founding members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and loved to travel the US and Europe.

Jane Fraser was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband Philip. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Miller (Robert), Margaret Jobe (Bruce), Martha Dodd (Glenn) and Alan Fraser; by her grandchildren Helen Kutach (Scott), Elizabeth Knutson (Craig), Philip Dodd (Renee), Alexandre Miller and Joanna Rutlin (Zander); by her great-grandchildren Madeleine and Regan Kutach, Hayden and Ashlyn Dodd, Leighton and Corinne Knutson and Blake and Avery Rutlin; and by numerous much-loved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings, Frederick Strowbridge (Lou) and Eleanor Wisegarver.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale Galleria for the excellent care they gave to our mother, and the residents of Brookdale whose friendship made her years there so enjoyable.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from half-past six o'clock until half-past eight o'clock in the evening on Friday, the 29th of July, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The funeral service is to be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 30th of July, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 4900 Jackwood Street in Houston, where the Rev. David Browder, Rector, is to officiate.

The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Oakwood Cemetery in Huntsville, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Thomas Episcopal Church or to a charity of your choice.

I remember your mother as the quintessential "Southern Belle",...stately, polite, "Miss Manners", and astute conversationalist on any subject. She was also very kind and sharing to everyone. She was always a grand lady in and at every event from casual get-togethers around the kitchen at Aunt May and Uncle Fred's house in Griffing Park, to those fun-filled picnics in Anahuac. May your memories of your Mom be ever in your hearts as they are in mine, through all of the kindness and good will she shared with everyone with whom she came in contact.

Your Mother was truly a lady and it was our privilege to know her - the world feels a little less gracious now. Sending our love and deepest sympathy.
