Jane P. Mitchell

A memorial service for Jane P. Mitchell, 100, of Wilmington, N.C., formerly of Jeffersonville, and Wilmington, Del., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, 125 South Third St., Wilmington, N.C., with a reception for family and friends to follow, and with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville. She died Oct. 12, 2009, at her home. She was the daughter-in-law of the late Frederick Dean Mitchell, who served as publisher of the Jeffersonville Evening News in the late 1930s and 40s. She was born Sept. 20, 1909, in New Albany, to the late Olive and John Potts. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, where she served as a deacon and a member of Circle 4, a Presbyterian women's organization. She was a member of P.E.O., the Cape Fear Garden Club, Cape Fear Country Club, and the local Duplicate Bridge Unit. Survivors include her sons, H. Dean Mitchell and his wife, Donna, of West Chester, Penn., and Dale Mitchell and his spouse, David Imming, of Boston, Mass; grandchildren, H. Dean Mitchell III and his wife, DeLane, Allison Hubble and her husband Doug, all of Raleigh, N.C., and David Mitchell and his wife, Allison, of Washington, D.C.; and great-grandson, Chase Landon Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Hardin D. Mitchell, and twin daughters, Nan and Jane, who died at birth.
