Janis Terauds Obituary

TERAUDS, Janis. 1935-2004 Died on Friday, November 19, 2004 at Brome Missisquoi Perkins Hospital in Cowansville, Qc, aged sixty-nine years. Janis is greatly missed by his wife Karina (Mezgailis), three sons and two daughters-in-law, John, Karl (Isabelle) and Juris (Anne), granddaughter Kaylie and grandsons Andrik and Jayden. He is also mourned by his brothers and sisters, Juris, Aija, Ieva, Andris, Peteris and Marianna, and a large extended family in North America, Europe and Australia. Janis was born in Jelgava, Latvia. Besides his numerous professional accomplishments and pride in his family, Janis derived deep personal satisfaction from his lifelong work on behalf of the Latvian expatriate community in Montreal. A founding member and longtime head of the Latvian Centre, Janis was also active on the council of Trinity Latvian Church. A funeral and cremation were held on November 23, 2004 in Cowansville. A celebration of Janis's life will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2004, starting with a memorial service at St. John's Estonian Lutheran Church, 4345 Marcil, Montreal at 2 p.m. followed by a reception at the Latvian Centre, 3955 Provost, Lachine at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Janis was a great mentor and a good friend. His kindness and warm personality remain in my memory. My sincere deep condolences to Karina and his three sons and families.
