Dear Lucille and Karel,
Our heartfelt sympathy to your family during this difficult time. We were out of town last week and just learned of this sorrowful news. You are in our prayers and thoughts.

I was his Psychology major advisor at UConn . We had spoken on 3 or 4 occasions. I have hundreds of advisees, but the first time I met him (November 1, 2006) I was struck by his uniqueness. (I actually remembered his name) He mentioned [timidly, it seemed] that he liked poetry. I said I did too. I think we enrolled him in a poetry class. He was searching around for a minor to declare, starting with Philosophy. He returned to my office the same day after looking into that option to say he had decided against that; and that he wanted to declare Neuroscience. Before he left my office one day, he asked if he could take part in one of Dr. David B. Miller's podcasts. He had Dr. Miller for intro psych. We were amazed at his request; and Dr. Miller said of course he could. Jason joined Dr. Miller for the podcast on the next Thursday. My heart breaks for you all. The 3 of us in this office who met Jason (Linda Ferrell, David Miller, and myself) are so saddened by his death. I can only image what you all are going through.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Lucille and Karel,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Jason's sudden death. It is impossible to make sense of the death of one so young. I hope the memories of the good times will bring you comfort. Hold them close to your heart now and always. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. Take care of yourselves.
