John Cisneros Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 5, 2024.
John David Cisneros, 84, passed away on February 23, 2024, in Pasadena, California. Lovingly called "Poggy" by his family and their friends, he was known for his kind, loving, family-oriented nature and will be dearly missed.

John was born on August 11, 1939, in Pasadena, California to Fidencia and Delfino Cisneros. One of eight siblings, John learned early the importance of family.

John attended St Andrews Elementary, St Francis High School, and Pasadena City College and was in the Navy Reserve. He dedicated his career to computer systems and programming at various banks in Southern California.

It was at the Federal Reserve Bank in Los Angeles where he met the love of his life, Anna May Broderick. They were married on February 20, 1965 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Huntington Park, California. They are the proud parents of four children who remember him as the "perfect" father. "Pops" was right there alongside them at Indian Guides and Little League games. He was always in the bleachers at high school football games, and was a constant, supportive influence in the lives of his children.

Everyone knew and loved Poggy; he warmed hearts wherever he went and he had a special relationship with each of his children and grandchildren. He traveled to Utah, Arizona, Minnesota, and Texas so he could be in attendance at baptisms, weddings, graduations, concerts, soccer games, and grand-openings.He was up for anything and had a special Poggy wave whenever his grandchildren came or went.

John found joy in so many people and in so many places. He and Anna May loved to travel. They, and their immediate and extended family also loved camping trips, taco nights, Dodger games, Olvera Street, and French dip sandwiches at Philippe's. John loved popcorn and pie, holidays, and reading the newspaper, coffee cup in hand, as he sat in his favorite chair at the head of the kitchen table. He leaves a legacy of love, humor, inside jokes, integrity, constancy, and fun.

John is survived by his beloved wife Anna May, children David (Shannon), Darin (Laurie), Jill Manwaring (Ron), and Stephen (Teri), and sister Mary Stephens. Poggy leaves behind 15 grandchildren: Emma, Lacey, Bryan (Amelia), Shane (Adriana), Riley (Natalie), Kathryn Grover (Payton),Haley Nykamp (Hyrum), Ethan, Eliza Vawdrey (Ryan), Jenna Proctor (Jordan), Sydney Knighton (Spencer), Benjamin, Samuel, Jack, and Lola, as well as eight great-grandchildren: Henry, Preslie, Thomas, William, Luke, Ezra, Zoey, and Jane. He was preceded in death by his parents Delfino and Fidencia, siblings Jesse, Bernie, Frances, Virginia, Lou, and Terry.

A service to honor John's life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 2121 E. Route 66, Glendora, CA 91741.

We first met John at Dave and Shannon Cisneros' wedding reception in Glendora. We admired the wonderful children that John and Anna May raised and wanted our children to be outgoing and confident like their four children. Thank you John for your example of great parenting.

Dad was a constant. He was a family man who was always there for his family. His gentle, quiet nature made you feel heard by him and important to him.
