John Johannson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 28, 2014.
JOHANNSON, John Ivan
March 13, 1935 - November 26, 2014
On November 26, John died peacefully at Lions
Gate Hospital surrounded by love. A dearly loved
husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 57
years, Cathy; and sons Dean (Elaine), and Arni
(Tammy) and daughter Wendy and grandchildren
Brandon, Brooke and James. Predeceased by
sister Sigga, and survived by brothers Tom,
Francis, Bob and sisters Rena, Louise, and
Blanche along with many nieces and nephews.
John was born in Langruth, Manitoba but made his
home on the North shore after receiving an
engineering degree in Manitoba and later an MBA
from UBC. He enjoyed a long career in the Pulp and
Paper industry and was active on many boards
and committees including the IBMP. He was very
proud of his family's Icelandic heritage and was
loyal to his family roots, often attending and
organizing family gatherings and reunions in
Manitoba and in BC. John devoted countless hours
to his church and his community and was an
integral member of the design and building of the
Icelandic Care Home. John enjoyed playing bridge
for many years at the Senior Centre and with their
friends in Bridge Club. John will be remembered
for his many strong opinions but also for his sense
of humour, his unconditional love and his
generosity. His happiest moments were spending
time with family and friends and the many happy
summers at the family's cabin on Bridge Lake. He
will be dearly missed. "Keep to the right". In lieu of
flowers, donations gratefully accepted to
Highlands United Church, 3255 Edgemont Blvd.

Dear Cathy and Family:

Arne and I were sorry to hear that John had passed away, but glad that his passing was peaceful from what Dean told us. John was a great boss at Sunds Defibrator and both of you were very kind to me. I'm sorry we didn't get to visit you at Bridge Lake but still remember you visiting me at Tolko, Louis Creek in 1995.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear Cathy and Family: There are no words for the gratitude we feel for John's presence in my family's life. I will especially remember the kindness and generosity all you have shown to both of my parents, and especially my father when he was alone. Your family were the very definition of good neighbours during many difficult as well as happy times. We are so blessed to have landed next door. Peace be with you all.

Having John on our Höfn Board was a delight. He really enjoyed the planning discussions during the building of our new assisted living residence. John was proud of his Manitoba Icelandic roots. He encouraged my wife and I to visit his nephew's farm in Langruth and see the old steam tractors. Apparently, John loved getting behind the wheel of a tractor during his summer visits. We always looked forward to the Septemer Board Meeting and hearing John's tractor story.

Cathy and Family.
Our thoughts are with you. John enjoyed life and we are all happy that we could share it with him. The stories I have heard about his younger years make me smile. He (along with Robert) gave me my first ride in a car that hit 100mph. Cheers John.

Uncle John & Aunt Cathy have always been so kind and supportive to me and to all the cousins. I will miss him dearly, and his humorous, well-meaning advice! My love to all of you.

I will surely miss John - he always arrived at the IBMP meetings before me and was the first person I greeted. Carlie and I enjoyed his company at the many events we attended together. He was overflowing with bonhomie whenever you guys returned from your annual sojourns at the cabin.
All our love
