John William "Jack" Stahl

John "Jack" William Stahl Jack passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 26, 2017. He was 63. Jack was born in San Francisco on February 25, 1954. He was raised to age 9 in San Bruno/Daly City before the family moved to Terra Linda in 1963. Jack attended St Isabella Grammar School and Marin Catholic High School, graduating in 1972. Jack was an avid sportsman playing baseball, basketball and football all through his growing years. He loved sports of all kinds and his knowledge was quite impressive. He would read the newspaper cover to cover as he was taught by his dad. The sports page was savored and lingered over for many days until he read all the facts, and wasn't afraid to repeat them at any opportunity. Jack was predeceased by his parents William (Bill) in 1978 and Eileen in 2004. Jack is survived by the apple of his eye his namesake daughter, Jacqueline Eileen Stahl (Ryan). He is also survived by his sister Virginia (Ginny), brother-in-law Don and two nephews Brian and Michael Jarvis. He was blessed to have many cousins that all loved him and will miss him dearly. And of course his many lifelong friends from his school years. Jack was a true character as all who knew him had experienced at some time in their lives. In his final days he joked with us about how he would make sure we knew he was around when "weird stuff happens." Jack was a member of the Nave Patrola for many years for which he was very honored and proud. He loved his Marin Catholic and Terra Linda relationships and held many dear to his heart until the very end. Especially Glen Rupiper who was with him when he passed. Jack fought an unbelievably courageous battle with esophageal cancer for 14 years, being given a life expectancy of 3-5 years in 2007. He was courageous and always was grateful to all who supported him from the doctors, nurses to his friends and family. On the day of his passing we were notified that his corneas were donated and resulted in two people being able to see. A Memorial Mass will be held at St Isabella Catholic Church, 1 Trinity Way San Rafael at 11:00am Friday September 22, 2017.
