Retired Tyngsborough firefighter, Vet; 85
VENICE, Florida -- Joseph F. Knight, Jr., of Venice, FL, formerly of Tyngsborough, MA, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Anne (Maberry) Knight with whom he celebrated their 63rd anniversary on October 8th.
He was born in Lowell, MA on June 11, 1930, the son of the late Ethel (Boland) Knight and Joseph F. Knight, Sr. He was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1948. He was a Eagle Scout.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1948 to 1952.
From 1953 to 1978, Mr. Knight was a volunteer firefighter for the Tyngsborough Fire Department. He was also a member of Lowell Underwater Explorer's Club. In July 1978, he became Full Time Fire Chief and retired in July 1985.
He was a founder and coach of the Tyngsborough Little League. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Tyngsborough. He served as a church usher for 35 years. He moved to Venice, FL in 1985 and was a volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity there.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Lisa Knight of Tewksbury, MA, Mike and Pauline Knight of Tyngsboro, MA, Rick Knight of Sarasota, FL; a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Glenn Taylor of Port Charlotte, FL; his former daughter-in-law, Carol Goad of Townsend, MA; his grandchildren, Kayla, Jason, Stefan, Derek and his wife, Bree, Melanie, Melissa, and Jennifer and her husband, Jake; three great-grandchildren; and his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Claire Knight of Citrus Hill, FL.
