Joseph KUNTZ Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post from Jan. 2 to Jan. 4, 2016.
JOSEPH (JOEY) MICHAEL KUNTZ
The loveliest of souls, Joseph (Joey) Michael Kuntz, left this world, much too soon for those who loved him, in the early hours of December 30, 2015, following a cerebral hemorrhage. Joey entered this world on June 15, 1967, the beloved son of Joseph and Lorraine (nee Kurek) Kuntz. He was born and raised in Regina, graduating from Robert Usher Collegiate and the University of Regina. Although his early ambition was to become a professional drummer, Joey obtained his B.A. in psychology before entering the optical industry in the early 1990's. He took great pride in being an attentive, highly-skilled, licensed optician, founding J&J's Optical Gallery with his late father approximately a decade ago. Joey obsessed over G-Shock watches, horror movies, obscure punk and metal bands, and painting 1/6th-scale figures in equal measure. He reserved his greatest devotion, however, for family and friends. Joey was effusive, warm, funny, deeply loving, sensitive, and affectionate. He was a caring and kind-hearted son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. He unabashedly adored his fiancee who called him the "sweetest of sweethearts". Joey was predeceased by his dad, Joseph, in 2010, and by his grandparents on both sides of the family. Joey's loss leaves broken-hearted his: fiancee, Sandra Bobyk; mother, Lorraine; brother, Colin (Leanne); nieces, Leecie and Mattea; special uncles, Pat (Carol) and Michael (Carol) Kuntz; special cousins, Melissa Kuntz, Collette (John) Beggs, Brit Kuntz, and Deb Kurek; "best man" Brian Kreutzer; Sandra's family; and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass will be held at Little Flower R.C. Church, 420 College Avenue, Regina on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jose Thomas Periyilkatte celebrant. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers most gratefully declined. Donations may be made, in Joey's memory, to the Saskatchewan South Acquired Brain Injury Outreach, 2180 23rd Avenue, Regina, SK S4S 0A5. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit

I cant believe its been almost three months since God called you home. Some days I wake up and its like a horrible dream. Some days are better than others. Some days all I want to do is talk about you because it makes me smile remembering you. Some days its just too hard to even look at your picture. Listening to certain songs, still too hard.

Can you keep some room for me... wherever you are?

Love you. Britt

I am one of those fortunate ones that admired a colleague's glasses many years ago and was referred to J&J's. It became my place for glasses because of how I was treated. The combination of Joe, Lorraine and Joey made you feel comfortable in their shop. There was always great chatter and laughter. When I told Joey that I get complimented many times on my glasses when wintering down south, he would just say--of course--look at them--they look great! I kept going back because they had such edgy glasses and I stayed because they really cared about you. Even in November when I popped in just for an adjustment Joey was interested in my trip and what I would be doing in Arizona. An amazing man with expertise in his field coupled with a passion to find the right glases by getting to know you as a person. That is a unique and rare quality. We will miss you Joey--my heart goes out to you Lorraine, Sandra and families.

Dear Sandra

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this message of condolences to you. When Carol let me know that Joey had passed away, my thoughts immediately went to you. Although I had only spoken to you and Joey briefly at Carol & Craig's wedding, I knew that he was a very special person and I could tell how much he loved you. My heart breaks for you and my prayer for you is that God fills you with His peace during this time. Please know that you do not grieve alone - everyone that knew and loved Joey grieves with you.

Thinking of you.

Lorraine, from our family to yours, please accept our deepest sympathy as our hearts break with yours at the news of Joey's sudden passing. Over the many years of knowing Joey (and you & Joe), we knew that whenever we'd stop by the shop, it would never be a quick stop as we'd usually end up down a rabbit trail of conversation about our families, farming, community events, the Riders...and more recently Joey's love, Sandra.
Lorraine, you (and Joey & Joe) made us feel like we were a part of your extended family, and we've always enjoyed our visits at the shop, thank-you.
Sandra, although we haven't met, we were excited for you and Joey when he shared with us that he was getting married! Our hearts break with yours as well.
Joey was a special guy and will be greatly missed.
With much love and prayers, Bruce & Lisa Bailey, Joel & Daniel; Dave & Irma Brightman
