Jules White Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 13 to Aug. 15, 2013.
Jules Vidos White was born in Baton Rouge on April 18, 1959, and departed this life on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, a victim of a sudden heart attack. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Martha V. White, children, Sarah Rose White and Robert Lee White, sister, Catherine White Johnson and husband Paul, and nephew, Edward Johnson, all of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by uncles, Michael Vidos and wife Cathy, Jared Vidos and wife Natalie, cousins, Grayson, Elizabeth and Catherine Vidos, Sebastian, Jared and Christopher Bowman. He is also survived by beloved grandchildren, Dylan, Madelyn, Logan and Ashton Fanguy. Mr. White was preceded in death by his father, B.J. "Jack" White, his wife, Mary Jude White, grandparents, Robert Lee and Catherine White of Dallas, and Jules and Martha Vidos of Morgan City, and a host of uncles and aunts. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, he attended Woodlawn High School and Nicholls State University. As a young man he was a manager for JW Contractors and most recently was a supervisor for Allen and Leblanc where he was a valued and respected employee. Mr. White developed a love for tennis and golf from his father and they enjoyed competitive play all their days. At an early age he was taught to hunt and fish by his maternal uncles. Throughout his life he was happiest in the woods of the Felicianas or fishing on the coast. His skills with shotgun, muzzle loader, bow, and rod and reel were well known. Like his grandfather, Jules Vidos, Jules White was comfortable on boats of any size, and was an affable fellow with a wide circle of friends who loved him dearly. A born raconteur, Jules White entertained family and friends with his jokes and stories. He could be found at the center of any gathering, with his listeners hanging on every word. He read widely, with favorite selections being the works of Hemingway, Nash Buckingham and columns of Joe Macaluso. An avid fan of LSU sports, he could recount in great detail how he experienced the games Pete Maravich played in the Cow Palace or legendary football games such as "the Night It Rained Oranges" and the "Earthquake Game." Jules Vidos White was unfailingly kind, courteous and generous. Even in death, his generosity as an organ donor has improved the lives of 77 patients. A celebration of this wonderful life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 from noon to 4 p.m. at the White residence on Highland Road. Family and friends are invited to this casual luncheon. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Magnolia Mound Plantation, P.O. Box 45848, Baton Rouge, LA 70895 or the Friends of the LSU Rural Life Museum, P.O. Box 14852, Baton Rouge, LA 70898.

We were considerably shocked by the news of Jules' death and that he passed on the day of my own 54th birthday: 54 years is much too early to lose one who has meant so much
to his family and friends.

I only saw Jules in passing in the last four decades, but the White home and gardens were most memorable settings for our childhood. There were lamb roasts with "a lot of garlic,"
and some kind of tennis tournament going on throughout the day, with the always charming Jules providing good value on the court. His high spirits and sportsmanship made those days
unforgettable.

My wife Martha LaGess and I send condolences particularly to Martha and Catherine White. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time of loss.

Much Love from Michael and Martha

Worked with Jules at JW Contractors . He was a good friend. Gone too soon. He always made us laugh and had the uncanny ability to find a reason to get us out of work to have some fun. Our deepest sympathy to Mrs. White and his family.

Jules your sudden passing has come with both shock and sadness but the memories and adventures we shared together along with other family and friends will carry on for many years to come .
from the sport-o-ramas on the hill to the golf outings at the old Shenandoah cc. , the Lsu games you and your dad brought me too as a young boy will be with me forever,
but most of all I will remember all of the fishing and duck hunting adventures we shared together in the saltwater marshes of old oyster bayou and catching speckled trout in the surf at last island, I know as I sit and think of all of good times we had that you and your dad are trying to get in a round of golf laughing it up like old times, do me a favor leave a few fish for me to catch when I see you again on the other side, your cousin grayson

Dearest Martha and Catherine...this earth is indeed a darker place without Jules and the sunshine he carried with him wherever he went! I am so grateful to have known him!

My sister Ann has put into words what Jules meant to us as family. And may I just add, Jules, you left everyone in our family and friends beyond happier on this earth in your all too brief visit. You will be missed beyond measure, but your optimistic spirit and sporting charm will remain with us all.

Jules, Even in death you have given to so many others, your legacy will continue. We are so heartbroken for all the family. I will remember the Easter egg hunts in Morgan City, wonderful family Christmas gatherings at Aunt Martha's, and basketball games at The Hall, and of course your hilarious jokes with all the laughter they brought and to never be forgotten, your permanent beautiful smile and sparkly blue eyes. We miss you and love you, always. Peace my sweet cousin. Love, Ann and John Hallam
