Julia Piszczek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 9, 2012.
Julia K. Piszczek, 100, a resident of Church of God Home, Carlisle, and formerly of Carlisle and Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at the home.

She was born April 13, 1912, in Plymouth, the daughter of the late Ignatius and Catherine Biennas Krystofik, and the widow of Frank Piszczek and Charles Smith.

Mrs. Piszczek married her first husband, Charles Smith, in Good Shepherd Polish National Church, Plymouth, in 1932, one child, June, born in 1933, and was widowed in 1942. In 1945, she married Frank Piszczek and was widowed in 1968.

She lived in Plymouth all her life until Hurricane Agnes destroyed her home in 1972. Since then she lived with her daughter, June, and son-in-law, Michael (deceased 2008), first in Bear Creek Township outside Wilkes-Barre, then in Carlisle since 2005. She was a resident of the Church of God Home in Carlisle since 2010.

Julia enjoyed gardening all her life and her flower gardens in Plymouth provided her with much joy. She believed that hard work, saving nickels and believing in God would provide a better life. Julia crocheted, sewed and knitted everything from pot holders to men's suits. She worked tirelessly as a beautician most of her life. As age diminished Julia's senses, she turned to saying the Lord's rosary many times each day, reaching out for God to restore her sight so as to better live her life. Her life on Earth ended surrounded by the good friends and providers at the Church of God Home who cared for her lovingly.

Surviving are her daughter, June Elias, Carlisle; her grandson, Damien Elias and his wife, Sondra Wolfe, Carlisle; and two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Daniel Elias.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Krystofik and Joseph Krystofik; three sisters, Helen Krystofik, Violet Krystofik and Sophie Comeroski; and her husbands, Charles Smith and Frank Piszczek.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Cemetery, Plymouth, with the Rev. Anodizio officiating.

Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, Carlisle, is handling the arrangements.

I will always remember my Aunt Julie cutting my hair. I was just a little girl, and to make me sit still, she would have me look at this one tile on the wall and she told me if I watched it, a little mouse come out to visit me. I never saw the mouse, but I do remember my aunt, and she will never be forgotten. She is up in heaven now with the rest of the family. God will take good care of her.
