To the Durham Kids:
I am addressing this to you, even if I know more people will miss June, but my history is with you.
When my mother, Barb Baker, died in 1970, it severed ties between our family, and any old friends of my mothers. My father chose a different direction, and we were all in such a state of shock & pain, we forgot everything but that pain.
Our parents were linked before 1948 when our mothers met each other roller skating. But on 6/6/48 your parents were married & 6/8/48, they then stood up for my parents. I think because I was born to my mother when she was 19, I grew up being her girlfriend, and her friends were all mine also. So that's is how June became so special to me.
I began looking for my 'old girlfriends' in the middle of life, and June was the last one I connected with. We picked up like no time had passed. We could laugh & reminisce just like she did with Mom.
I will miss not talking to her about old times, etc, but I will not miss her almost begging to go home with Bob. I am thrilled we were able to spend the time we did together. And I am so happy she is finally free. Bye, Junie. Love, Janie Baker
