Karen Buist Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 27, 2016.
Karen Kay Buist passed away in her home, at the age of 65, on September 26, 2016, due to a long term illness.
Karen was born to Wendell and Donna Forsgren on March 10, 1951 in Preston, Idaho. She grew up in Thatcher, Idaho on the family farm. She attended Ricks College where she graduated with a degree in Art. She met Leonard at college and was married in her family's home in Thatcher, Idaho on June 28, 1972. Karen and Len moved to Thornton, Colorado in 1973. She worked in retail for several years then opened her first business as a seamstress, Needles n' Pins, in 1994. To follow her passion of making Porcelain dolls she soon after opened a second business, Ribbons n' Lace Dolls. She then had to give up both shops due to her health.
Karen was known for her talent and creativity. She had a great attitude and sense of humor. She loved to Turkey Call across the house just to make us laugh.
Karen is survived by her husband Len; mother, Donna; brother, Ben; children, Brandon (wife Paula), and Adrienne; and grandchildren Tracee, Sydnee, and Lunden.
Karen has now joined her father Wendell; brother, Steve; and sister, Wannetta in the Lord's care.
A memorial gathering will be held at 1:00 p.m. on October 3, 2016, at Olinger Highland Mortuary, 10201 Grant Street, Thornton, Colorado 80229.
Arrangements under the direction of Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, Thornton, CO.

To Lanny and Family,in honor of Karen, I send this poem.
Do Not Stand By My Grave And Weep
(by Mary Elizabeth Frye)
Do not stand by my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken to the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

To the Buist family--I enjoyed knowing Karen, and I know that she brought a lot into your lives--fun, creativity, and care. It is sad that her illness gradually took away her life and that she left us too soon. Blessings and love to you as you grieve her loss.

I have so many wonderful memories of staying with Karen Kay and Wannetta as a young girl. She was always so sweet and kind to me. I remember staying up late talking girl stuff together. We had our first babies at the same time. I haven't seen her or talked for many years and I know she suffered with her illness, but I loved her. I'm so sorry Aunt Donna and Ben. I love you all and my prayers are with you. Love, Robyn Storey Cutler

Rip Karen. You will be missed greatly and I hope your reunion in heaven is as good as we imagine it would be.
