Kathryn "Katie" Fogarty

Kathryn "Katie" Fogarty, 88, of Tempe, AZ, passed away Wednesday evening, November 14th, 2007 after a short, courageous battle with cancer. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Katie was born Feb. 24, 1919 in Avilla, Indiana to William B. and Bertha (Steinbarger) Fisher. She later moved to La Grange, IN, where she graduated from high school and went on to Purdue University for 2 years. Katie worked at the South Bend Tribune and sold war bonds for several years at Notre Dame. She met and married her husband, Richard, on September 21, 1946. They later moved to La Porte, IN, where she began substitute teaching. She was an involved Service League member, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a volunteer with the Hospital Auxillary. Katie was also always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who was sick. She was a talented cook, interior designer and seamstress. Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, Richard; their three children, Patricia (Dan) Heatherson, Granger, IN, Kathy Zerigian of La Porte, IN and Richard (Sharon) Fogarty of Queen Creek, AZ along with three grandchildren, Jackie, Danny and Michele Heatherson; three step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and her sister, Betty Farekas of South Bend, IN. Katie touched the hearts of many people, especially her family. She enjoyed family, friends, the Catholic Church, entertaining and playing bridge. Memorial services will be conducted at a later date.
