Kenneth Schweighhardt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 10, 2008.
Kenneth Edward Schweighardt, 81, of Phoenix, went to rest with his wife of 34 years, June, on February 3, 2008. He was surrounded by family at his passing leaving a heritage of honor, integrity, and solid family values. He was a decorated Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific Theatre. Ken had a love of sports which included golf, tennis, bicycling, and watching the Diamondbacks and Suns. Ken also became a Christian, believing in the Word of God. He enjoyed his Bible study groups and attending church with his family. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Ken leaves four children and six grandchildren to continue the work and journey he started. The courage and dignity that Ken showed as he faced his health problems is an inspiration and example for everyone. We love you Gramps! Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Ken's honor to the Hospice of the Southwest, 450 North Dobson Road, Suite 108, Mesa, Arizona 85201.

THE WATCH
This sailor has stood the watch
While some of us were in our bunks at night
This sailor stood the watch
While some of us were in school learning our trade
This shipmate stood the watch
Yes, even before some of us were born in this world
This shipmate stood the watch

In those years when the storm clouds of war were seen
This shipmate stood the watch
Many times he would cast an eye ashore and see
his family standing there
Needing his guidance and help
Needing that hand to hold during those hard times
But he still stood the watch
He stood the watch for many years
He stood the watch so that we, our families and
Our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in
safety, each and every night
Knowing that a sailor stood the watch
Today we are here to say
"Shipmate...the watch stands relieved
Relieved by those you have trained, guided and lead
Shipmate - you stand relieved...we have the watch"
"Boatswain - Standby to pipe the side
Shipmate Going Ashore"

Thank you for your service to this nation.
