Leslie FOLDEN Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on Oct. 1, 2013.
Leslie Floyd Folden
April 14, 1937 - September 29, 2013
(age 76 years)
Dad was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. He passed away surrounded by family following a brief battle with lung cancer. Dad farmed all his life in the Daylesford area. He was also well known for his purebred Charolais cattle. He was one of the first breeders to import the big white cattle from France. Dad was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt all big game. For the past 20 years Dad was a Walleye Tournament angler having won the prestigious Nipawin Premier's Cup in 2000 and 3rd place in the Vanity Cup in 2011 with his lifelong partner, Mom. Dad loved his grandchildren and all the local kids who called him 'Grandpa Les'. Many of these kids learned to hunt and fish because of Dad's passion and patience. During his time as caretaker of the skating rink, all kids were given the opportunity to practice their skating and hockey skills. He was never too busy to tie a pair of skates or pass along some encouragement or criticism where deserved. Les is survived by his wife of almost 51 years Ann (nee Slater), Gwen (Brad) Lancaster and son Taylor; Don (Charlene) and twin boys Parker and Porter; Greg and son Jacob; Darin (Karina) and daughter Madyson and son Nathan; and Jason (Nicole) and sons Joshtin and Breshton. Les was predeceased by his father Edwin in 1977, mother Emma in 2011 and brother Delbert in 1991. A Celebration of Life Service for Les will be held from St. Brieux Roman Catholic Church, St. Brieux, SK on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Brenda Curtis officiating. Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Chateau Providence Auxiliary. To leave condolences for the family, you are welcome to visit the online guestbook at www.fedusiakfuneralchapel.com Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fedusiak Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Melfort, SK (306-752-3838).

Ann and family... We were so sorry to hear of the loss of this great man. With fishing being one of his great passions in life, I am sure he will now be fishing in the heavenly lakes with Glenn Dent while reminiscing about past tournaments. Our thoughts and prayers are with you....Val & Dennis

My sincerest condolences to Aunty Ann, Gwen, Greg, Darin, Don, Jason, and your families during this difficult time. I will always have great memories of fishing with uncle Les or going out to visit him on the farm. His dedication to the rink and willingness to open it up at any time to allow us to skate will never be forgotten. Much of the credit for so many years of competitive and victorious hockey teams in town can be given to Uncle Les, and the opportunity he gave the St. Brieux youth. His love and support will never be forgotten. I am truly sorry I will not be able to make it home to say my good byes, but I will be there in spirit, and thinking of you all. Rest in peace Uncle Les.

To Ann, Don, and families my sympathy goes out to your families at this time. I remember Les as a top notch fastball coach, for the St, Brieux team. Was a very kind man and always had time for a conversation. Take care God Bless you all at this time.

Ann, Gwen, Don, Greg, Darin and Jason and all your families,

Please accept our deepest sympathies for the loss of a pretty darned wonderful man, husband and father. We have wonderful memories of the time we were able to come to St. Brieux and visit for a couple of days. We were made to feel so welcomed by both Les and Ann. We enjoyed the times with Darin and Greg when they came to Flin Flon for a spell as well as when Jason came for hockey, you raised your kids to be such loving people. Such a wonderful and giving couple. Ann, keep those beautiful memories that you both made and hold them always close to your heart. One day they will bring a smile to your face and make you feel so much better. Loads and loads of love to all of you from Wayne, Misty and family.
