Lonnie Sassman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 9, 2015.
Lonnie Dion Sassman, 47, of Del City, Oklahoma died on June 5, 2015 at his residence. Born, October 17, 1967 in Robstown, Texas to Louis D. Sassman, Jr. and Sue Ann (Keefover) Cassar. Lonnie was an amazing boy with many talents. At the tender age of 3 years old, he taught himself to play the guitar by watching and imitating country singer and guitar player Glen Campbell. He became a gifted musician who never learned to read music; nevertheless music was a part of his soul, which he enjoyed sharing his talent with family and friends. He was also proficient playing the harmonica.

Lonnie played all types of music, but his passion was Rock. He was an avid fan of Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones, to name a few. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, collecting knives, and cooking. His favorite food was "taters and onions". Lonnie was a humanitarian who cared for his community by preparing and serving meals to people who were hungry. His generosity and kindness will always be remembered.

Lonnie is survived by his parents, Louis D. Sassman, Jr. and step-mother, Eunice; mother, Sue Ann Cassar and step-father, Aladino; sister, Joan Sassman; step-brothers, Terry and Anthony Cassar, Terry Schaare; nieces, Cameo Porter and Katherine Carra; great-niece, Eternity; great-nephews, Nathan and Gavin, and a host of relatives and friends.

The Sassman family wishes to give special thanks and recognition to nurse Stacey Powell for her support and loving commitment to Lonnie's care. We would also like to thank Phoenix Home Health Care and their caring staff for their assistance and support.

I've know Lonnie since Jr High. He kept in touch with me while I was in the Navy and out of state by writing me letters. We connected on FB eventually. I remember Lonnie taking me to the Rocky Horror Pic Show. He always could make me laugh especially if I was having a bad day. I will miss Lonnie. I pray for strength for his family and friend. We all have a short time on earth but we have a better place after this and he is now walking with the Lord.

Lonnie I will sure miss everything about you. You were like a big brother and best friend for more than half my life. I reflect back on
our younger and wilder days and laugh. You were the first person to take me to the Rocky Horror Picture Show..lol I loved that black hat and
wore it more than you :) All the meals and movies the flea market shopping and walks at the lake and
just singing along while you played
your guitar are memories I will treasure foreever. I take comfort in knowing we will see each other again in heaven. Until then my friend huggles I love you and your family xoxo
