Luke Smith

Luke is survived by his beloved wife, Juanita Smith, his daughters Carli Donsky (Jamie) and Lindsey Pickering (Marc), his grandchildren W and Henry Donsky and a large extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Etta Smith, his sister Anne Smith.

Luke grew up on Long Island, with his parents and 7 brothers and sisters. As a child in Merrick, NY he attended Cure of Ars and graduated from Sanford Calhoun High School. He met Nita as a teenager in Huletts Landing, and later they married on March 20, 1971. After graduation from SUNY Oneonta they moved to Schenectady, NY. Luke received his Masters in Public Administration from SUNY Albany and began working as a case worker for Child Protective Services in Schenectady Co. He worked for many years for New York State Commission of Corrections in Albany and later as Deputy Commissioner of Corrections in Westchester County. After he retired, he ran for public office in their home town. He was Niskayuna's Town Supervisor for 8 years.

Luke loved being a father to his daughters, he enjoyed his role as the overprotecter! If possible, he was even more excited when he became a grandfather. He loved being able to share the beauty of Lake George with his family. Luke and Nita bought his childhood summer home in Huletts Landing and eventually retired there. He loved to play golf, go for a cruise on the boat and spend time with friends and family. He will be so very missed.

A celebration of life in honor of Luke will be held at the Queensbury Hotel, 88 Ridge St, Glens Falls, NY 12801, on Saturday March 9, 2024. The ceremony will begin at 3pm. Luke will be remembered for his kind heart and loving nature. May he rest in peace.
