Lydia E. Leonard
Lydia E. Shaffner Leonard, 82, of ManorCare Health Services, Elizabethtown, formerly of Hummelstown, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003 in the Hershey Medical Center.
Born in York County on August 26, 1921, she was the daughter of the late David and Elva Witmer Shaffner.
She retired in 1978 after 17 years of service from the Milton Hershey Schools, where she had been a food preparer. She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hummelstown, and the Hershey Retirees Club. She enjoyed crocheting rugs and doing word puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell R. Leonard, on May 11, 1976.
She is survived by four sons, Larry R. Leonard and Donald F. Leonard, both of Hummelstown, Ronald E. Leonard of Harrisburg and Russell R. Leonard, Jr. of Annville; one daughter, Louise H. Stine of Lemoyne; one brother, Dean Shaffner of Dover; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 14, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. Dr. Alan C. Wenrich, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. Viewing will be held Friday in the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of the service.
