Mabel “Connie” Missimer Bell, 95, of Newtown Square, PA, died October 25, 2017, at Whitehorse Village. Connie was born on October 29, 1921, in Philadelphia, PA, to Lyman and Elsie Missimer. She attended Hood College in Frederick, MD and graduated with a degree in Home Economics and Education. After she left college, Connie married Thomas Robert Bell III and they settled in Devon, PA where they would raise their children together. During her working career, Connie was a kindergarden and first grade teacher at the Haverford School, where she was beloved by students and fellow teachers alike. Connie was a lifelong Eagles fan and held Eagles season tickets for many years. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends and volunteering for charities such as the Junior Service Board and Meals on Wheels. Connie loved travelling the world, and visited places as far flung as Thailand, Kenya, China and the Middle East. Family meant the world to Connie and she was happiest when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family and friends remember her as a feisty, strong, generous and loving woman who lived life to the fullest. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Robert Bell IV (Laura) and Richard Missimer Bell (Virginia); six grandchildren, Thomas Robert Bell V, William Michael Bell (Larissa), Kristen Bell Stone (Duncan), Stephen Whitman Bell, Lindsay Elizabeth Mucka McBryan (David), and Megan Missimer Bell; and three great-grandchildren, Gabby Bell, Tyler Bell, and Lila Stone. Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Robert Bell III; her daughter Janis Bell Mucka; her son Lyman Bell; her brother, Lyman Missimer; her daughter-in-law Gwynneth Joslyn Bell; and her son-in-law David Anthony Mucka. Services will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to The Haverford School, 450 Lancaster Ave, Haverford, PA 19041, www.haverford.org. Arrangements by The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000. Online at www.donohuefuneralhome.com.

I was very sorry to read of Connie Bell's passing. Let me pass on some history between our two families. It probably started with my grandparents, Dr. Samuel and Mary Ellis and Dr. Lyman and Elsie Missimer. They were great friends and card players and I can remember, as a child, the bridge and pinochle games at my grandparents' houses in West Philadelphia and Ocean City, NJ. Several summers, I drove a delivery truck for Dan's Market in Ocean City and most Fridays there would be an order to Park Place for "Mrs. Missimer". My grandparent's younger daughter, Virginia Ellis, was also a Hood graduate. I don't know if she and Connie were classmates, but they knew each other. When my parents moved back to the Philadelphia area from New York in 1960, I became a patient of Dr. Missimer. Our older son, Christopher, was a first grade student of Connie's at Haverford. Somehow my mother-in-law, Ruth Smyth, found her way into a bridge group of Connie's in Devon. I'm sorry that I have never met any of the younger generation.
