Pax Tecum in Tír na nÓg, Lady Bury
November 23, 2009
I met Lady Mairi in the gardens at Mount Stewart shortly after the death of my own Mother.
She was most gracious and kind to me as I was still visibly upset. That cup of tea was the first step on my journey back to sanity

I met The Lady Bury, for the first time, last year (2008) around autumn, whilst making a delivery to her private rooms at Mount Stewart.
I was naturally worried about etiquette, when meeting a Lady for the first time: I introduced myself using my given and surname, and the reply came 'Good Afternoon, sir, do sit down: I am Mairi - We have spoken on the phone!'
Lady Mairi showed intense interest in my profession, qualifications and the like, and I took my leave, feeling a lot less nervous than when I had first arrived!
It struck me as I was driving back to Newtownards - I had just met the Lady
I had learnt about as a Castle Gardens Primary School pupil, years before.
Congenial, demure, approachably friendly but all with 'poise', the Borough of Ards has lost a true lady, in The Lady Mairi Elizabeth Bury, J.P.

Sad to read of the death of Lady Bury. She was one of the few remaining links with better days and my condolences go to her family.

I had the pleasure of having tea with Lady Bury and the then Mayor of Ards Bourgh Council Cllr George Ennis when I was a Councillor for Ards West. Lady Bury was a gracefull Lady and very down to earth. Newtownards will miss a great embassider for our town.
The family are in our thoughts and prayers.
