Maria Williams

Maria was born Sept. 19, 1938, in Bucharest, România to Traian Chelariu, a well-known poet, essayist, and playwright (deceased, 1966), and Ecaterina (Stella) Radulescu Chelariu. Maria succeeded in leaving communist Romania for Switzerland in 1969, where she met and later married (1975) Don Williams, a US citizen studying in Zurich. Maria and Don moved to Boulder in 1976. They separated in 1988 and later divorced. Son Colin Traian Williams was born in 1977. Maria's mother, Stella, immigrated in 1977 to join them in their home, where she lived until her death in 1997. Maria was a gifted veterinarian, nationally certified in veterinary homeopathy, acupuncture, and Chinese medicine. Her veterinary practice for small and large animals, which she ran for decades, was a favorite in Boulder. Maria is survived by her former husband Don and son Colin and his wife Abby McClelland of Boulder; and by her brother Serban Chelariu and his wife Ana and daughter Miruna Andrea of New Jersey. A commemorative service for Maria will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Boulder or to a charity of the donor's choice.
