Marion V. Letourneau, 82, met her Lord and Savior on September 1, 2008 surrounded by her loving family at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

Marion was born on September 20, 1925 to the late John and Elizabeth (Szilagyi) Meszaros in Kulpmont, PA. She moved with her family to New York City where she spent her teenage years. She graduated from Julia Richmond High School in New York City. While in high school she met Edward Letourneau on a blind date. They married on September 8, 1945. They were just a few days shy of their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Marion was a homemaker while her children were young. She later worked at the EZ Mill, Putnam Memorial Hospital and for Patrick Murphy MD, Oakley Frost MD and Keith Edwards MD. She was a devout member of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church. She found great joy participating in the Ladies of Saint Anne, her weekly prayer group and traveling to various Catholic conferences in the New England region. She was always busy doing the Lords work. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and helping those in need.

Survivors include her husband Edward Letourneau of Bennington. Her six children, Edward Letourneau Jr. of Bennington, Anne (John) Carriere of Banner Elk, North Carolina, Donna (Tom) Harper of Naples, Florida, John (Melany) Letourneau of Bennington, James (Sheryl) Letourneau of Bennington and Marybeth (Tom) Kellogg of South Burlington, VT. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jason and Seth Carriere, Jacob and Sophie Kellogg, Jessica Letourneau and Jared and Jessica Johnson. Three great grandchildren Alixendria, Orianna and Jackson and an extended family that loved her a lot. She was pre-deceased by four brothers Bill, Benny, John and Joseph Meszaros and her sister Lily.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday Sept. 5, 2008 with a prayer at 10:30 am and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 am where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

The burial will take place in the family lot at White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday Sept. 4, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm when the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Marion Letourneau may be made to the Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church building fund through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.

All members of the Ladies of Saint Anne’s are requested to meet at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday Sept. 4, at 6:00 pm for the recitation of the Rosary.

Eddie, Please accept my most sincere condolences on the loss of your mom. I know that these will be among the most trying days of your life. The loss of a parent is clearly one of the most traumatic experiences we will ever face in life. However,
I know that you will draw strength from your experiences on the football field for BCHS and the lifeskills training you received there. I think of you and those times often and with great fondness. I hope to hear from you after your life returns to normal. You and your family are foremost in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Letourneau Family -

What sad news for all of us. Your mom was a great lady, and for me especially, was so kind to me during my college years when my parents were in the UK. I always felt a great sense of welcome and belonging in her home.

Dear Letourneau Famlly,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your wife and mother. I attended Benn. Catholic and know Eddie from way back then. I remember once going to a party at your home...it may have been Eddie's graduation party. Mrs. Letourneau was so sweet to all of us, and we had a good time that evening. Again, please accept my sympathy and prayers for the family. Marion surely is with her Heavenly Father, and I know her faith sustained her while she was here on earth.
Warmly,
Helen Burgess Morandi
