Martin H. Glannon, 97, of Manchester, NH, died April 4, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of failing health.


Born in Manchester, NH, on December 17, 1920, he was the son of Michael and Bridget (Walsh) Glannon.  He was a lifelong resident of the Queen City.


Martin graduated from Manchester High School Central, Class of 1939. He also attended the University of New Hampshire. 


During World War II, he served with the United States Navy.


In his early years, Martin worked with the Civil Conservation Corps. Later, he was a submarine welder at the Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth.  Afterwards, Martin was a firefighter with the City of Manchester Fire Department for thirteen years.  Until his retirement, he was a supervisor with the United States Postal Service. 


Deeply devoted to his faith, Martin was an active, longtime communicant of Saint Joseph Cathedral where he served as an usher.  He held membership in the Legion of One Thousand Men of the Monastery of the Precious Blood.


He was member of American Legion Henry J. Sweeny Post No. 2 for many years.


Martin enjoyed dancing and traveling with his wife, Theresa, especially to Ireland, Hawaii, and Aruba.  He also researched and visited all of the covered bridges in New England.  Martin will be remembered for his gentlemanly ways, warm smile, and quick Irish wit. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, whose family was the center of his life.


He was married to his wife of sixty-four years, Theresa (Spring) Glannon. She died January 20, 2015. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Wheeler.


Family members include three sons, Michael Glannon, and his wife, Kathy, of Delmar, NY, Walter Glannon and his, wife, Theresa, of Vancouver, B.C., and David Glannon of Dunbarton; two daughters, Barbara Trainque of Chester, and Judith Harisiades and her husband, Greg, of Manchester; eight grandchildren, Sara, Ryan, Matt, Mackenzie, Evan, Jamie, Rachel, and Kacie; a great-grandson, Elliott; several nieces and nephews.


Services: There are no calling hours.


A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10AM in Saint Joseph Cathedral, Pine Street, Manchester, NH.


Burial with military honors will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH.


Memorial donations may be made to The Monastery of the Precious Blood, 700 Bridge Street, Manchester, NH 03104.


The Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Manchester is in charge of the arrangements.
