Mary Hawes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 23 to Jun. 24, 2016.
Mary Clare Hawes
Surrounded by her family, Mary Clare Hawes, 86, passed away peacefully in Marysville, CA on Monday, June 20, 2016. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Eugene Hawes, son Paul Hawes, daughter Theresa Wagner, son Gerald Hawes, daughter Sharon Hawes, daughter Karen Hawes Bolton, daughter Mary Shores, daughter Barbara Moreno, daughter Jeany Bigley, and son Christopher Hawes as well as her 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Katherine, Joan, Patricia, Paula, and Rita and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Clare was born in Missouri Valley, Iowa on May 24, 1930 to Mary and Paul Behm. She grew up the eldest of six sisters and met her husband, Gene, in high school. After graduating from nursing school at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa and getting married in 1953, she and Gene moved to Marysville, and there together, raised their nine children. Mary spent the next 40 years serving her community as a registered nurse at Rideout Hospital and retired at the age of 70.

Mary Clare loved traveling with her family and tending flowers in her vibrant garden. She instilled in all her children and grandchildren a deep respect for hard work, setting an impeccable example for persistence and perseverance. Her grandchildren meant the world to her. Always supportive of their education and aspirations, she organized yearly get-togethers for them to catch up and remain connected with each other.

Mary Clare's sparkling wit, booming laugh, and full spirit will be sorely missed but always remembered with smiles.

A memorial service mass will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 6pm at St. Joseph's Church in Marysville.

Chris & Barbara, I met your Mom when I worked at Jack in the Box in Marysville 30+ years ago. She would often bring Sharon in for something to drink and sometimes they would eat lunch as well. It was always a pleasure to talk with the two of them. I have thought about her often throughout the years as I always thought she was an amazing woman. I'm so sad that she has passed, my thoughts are with you.

To Gene and the Hawes family, I am so sorry for your loss. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers. Aunt Mary Clare was one of a kind and I will never forget her laugh. She will live in our memories forever. May God Bless you all.

Sincerely,
