Maurizio Giacomo DeMaurizi

DeMAURIZI, Maurizio Giacomo Agostino, was born October 31, 1971 and died January 5, 2015 at age 43, in New York City, N.Y. His father was the late Dr. Lorenzo DeMaurizi, a native of Bologna, Italy and a vascular surgeon, who practiced in New York City, Toledo, Ohio and Richmond, Va. He is mourned by an international family circle, including his mother, Phyllis Stevens DeMaurizi Michaels; and his stepfather, Richard Michaels of Richmond; sisters, Dawn Spangler Spears of Chicago, Illinois, Kimberly Spangler Tetlow of Glen Allen and Vittoria Lorenza DeMaurizi of Richmond; his aunt, Lorenza Bonacorsi DeMaurizi; and cousin, Agostino DeMaurizi of Imola, Italy; nieces and nephew, Laura Spears of Sonoma, Calif., Georgia Krapf of San Francisco, Calif., Eric Tetlow of Charlottesville; and an extended family and friends in the United States. Maurizio was born in Toledo, Ohio and came to Richmond, Va., as a child. He attended Richmond Montessori School and Open High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts from New York University in 1996, followed by post-baccalaureate pre-medical studies from 2008 to 2013 at Virginia Commonwealth University.
