Melvin M. Barron

Melvin M. Barron, 76, of Concord and Essex, died peacefully on February 22, 2016 after a long battle with Parkinsons disease and later cancer. Mel was the second of three children born to the late Jacob Jack and Ruth (Fremerman) Barron in Cambridge, MA on March 2, 1939. He attended Hyde Park High School, followed by Boston University, and George Washington Law School. He returned to Massachusetts after law school and eventually settled and established a law practice in Concord Center in the late 1960s. He was a resident and active member of the community for over 45 years. He was a devoted husband, proud father of five, and a partner in the law firm of McWalter, Barron & Boisvert, LLP in Concord Center where he practiced family law. In addition to his law practice, he was a Justice of the Peace, one of the founding members of Congregation Kerem Shalom in Concord, served on various town committees, and was an avid tennis player at both the Thoreau Club and the Weston Racquet Club. He was very active in Concord Youth Soccer while his children were young, serving as one of the original directors, head of referees, and a coach for many years. He also acted in several stage productions with the Acton Open Door Theatre. His favorite place to spend time was Conomo Point in Essex, MA where he spent every summer since 1974. Mel was very active jogging, playing tennis and golf, bird- watching, boating, wind-surfing, and kayaking up until his last few years. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his children and grandchildren to whom he dedicated most of his free time. Mel will be best remembered for his kind and easy-going manner, creativity, quiet leadership, sense of humor, love for people, and his passion for music and dance. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol (Lang) Barron, his children Kenneth Barron and his wife Katherine Kimbrell of Winter Park, FL, Seth Barron and his wife Jodi Barron of Acton, Randall Barron and his wife Kathleen Barron of Groton, David (Barron) Seal and his wife Marta Molina-Seal of New York, NY, and Bethany (Barron) Niazian of Houston, TX, his twelve grandchildren, and his sister Edythe (Barron) Venet and her husband Steve Venet of Framingham. He was predeceased by his brother Michael Barron, late of Randolph. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 25th at 11am in Congregation Kerem Shalom, 659 Elm Street, Concord. Burial will follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord. The family will sit Shiva on Thursday, Feb. 25th from 6 to 8 pm, Friday, Feb. 26th from 1 to 4 pm and Saturday, Feb. 27th from 6 to 8 pm in their residence at 3 Arborwood Road, Acton, MA 01720.
