It is a loss not to have Mel around. I met Mel at Capital One and for the past ten months, he has been very helpful and supportive. Last week, he offered me a cup of coffee with a big smile. The presence of Mel will be missed. May you rest in peace dear Mel.

It is with great sadness that I read of the passing of Mel. He was truly a "car guy" and I remember him as always having a smile on his face. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Dear Brenda and Family,
Melvie was my savior and always willing to help out where needed. We lost touch over the years, but I have the fondest memories of him.
We spent alot of time together as young men, always enjoyed our chats, and his great knowledge of cars.
I will miss him and my memories will live on.
Our sincere thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow.

To Marilyn and Mel's Family, My late parents Harry and Lala Slutsky were best friends of Al and Ann Shafer over a lifetime. As kids we all went to Pripstein's camp together and that is where I knew Melvin. Your mother called him Melvie back then. Marilyn, you may remember me from our teen years when you and Melvin went to Wagar. I loved your guitar playing and folk singing back then. When I moved to Florida, your sister Sandy took my electric typewriter. And in Florida, I was back in touch with Lenny for a short while until he passed away. Seeing Melvin's name this morning was very upsetting but a rush of good memories of all the Schafers came back like it was just yesterday. So please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your dear brother.

To Brenda & family. You probably don't know me, but Mel & I go back over 30 years ago when I first met him and his gang when we were 21! At one time I was engaged to him, but that was a long time ago, and we were both very young. I knew the family, the Tkatches, and have the best of memories, even though we both went our separate ways and eventually married other people, him moving to Ottawa, and me to Mississauga. We recently reconnected as long lost friends on Facebook, where he told me of his health issues, but also mentioned he was on the mend, and caring for your father and grandmother in Mtl. I "cried" on his shoulder when I lost my father-in-law the end of Sept., who ended up being buried on my late husband's anniversary of his burial, and two weeks later my mother passed away in Mtl. as well, He told me of Lenny's losses and the miracle of your father coming around. I do now how you feel going through this myself, and although we never met, I have you and your family in my thoughts and prayers always. Mel was one of a kind, I will truly miss him and yes I know how he loved his cars, we spent many a night in Lenny's garage in the "old days" watching them both tinker. I just can't believe any of this, I last heard from him Nov 12/09 when all was well. Please keep in touch, if you need me or anything, my phone no. is 9058581991 and when things are less hazy please feel free to e-mail and keep in touch, [email protected]. I wish I could be there, but only heard this evening from my brother who still lives in Mtl. I am there in spirit for you and your family and will always remember the great man Mel was. Be proud of him.

Dear Brenda and Family,
Please accept my sinceres condolences on the sudden passing of Mel. I really only got to know Mel in the short time I have been a member at Cedarhill. Over that time I considered Mel to be a true friend. A warm and pleasant individual who you could always spend fun time with and always count on for a good laugh. His passing truly saddens me and I too will miss him dearly.
Sincerely,
Mike Latimer
