Michael Christin Obituary
Mr. Christin was born on February 22, 1949, in Columbus, OH, to the late Robert Ernest and Dorothy (Dunn) Christin.
Mr. Christin received a BA degree in Philosophy from St. Norbert's College, DePere, WI, and an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, Glendale, AZ.
Mr. Christin served in the United States Navy, Special Warfare Unit, SEAL Team Two in Norfolk, VA. He was the medical corpsman for his unit. In Europe, he participated in numerous cross training missions with NATO special warfare units.
Mr. Christin was Executive Director of the Healing Place, a recovery program and detox facility for homeless men in Athens, GA, and was the founding Executive Director of The Healing Place, in Richmond, VA. Mr. Christin developed community support, obtained approval from city officials, and launched a capital campaign to establish the facility that still serves the Richmond community.
Mr. Christin was active as a volunteer for Williamsburg Walk the Talk, a mentoring program for people released from jail in the Williamsburg community.
He was an avid skydiver with well over 3000 jumps, after which he stopped counting.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Christin served as an international trade manager for the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for an international corporation that operated restaurants throughout Latin America, and Vice President for commercial loans at Bank of America (Sovran) in Norfolk.
Mr. Christin is survived by his loving wife Teresa Faircloth Christin of Toano, VA; son Michael Peter Christin, Jr.; his brothers Robert (Barbara) of Washington Grove, MD; George (Audrey Schwartz) of Medford, MA; Matthew of Portola Valley, CA; Joseph of Waltham, MA; Edward of Miami Beach, FL; John (Linda) of Milford, CT; by his sisters Rita Bertino (Joseph) of Ossining, NY; Mary Christin (John Becker) of Waltham, MA; and by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Christin is predeceased by his brother Paul.
A funeral mass for Mr. Christin will be held at the Hickory Neck Episcopal Church, 8300 Richmond Road, Toano, VA, at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 6, 2013. Friends are invited to visit Mr. Christin's family at the Church after the service. His remains will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Christin's name may be made to the Hickory Neck Episcopal Church.

It has been 13 years that I have missed him. I think it will always seem as if it was yesterday. The years without him don´t diminish the loss and only made me love him more. This year, would´ve been our 45th anniversary on August 16th so I´ll celebrate "us" for us both. Scientists say now, that there is no time or space, so we will remain connected forever.

Meeting Mike for the first time was a positive experience, his personal warmth was always the first thing I felt and will remember when I think of him. My experience with THP in Louisville and then Richmond was the beginning of a friendship that ended to soon.

My memory of Mike is as a college student in the late 70's. I was in awe of his being able to party hard, smoke a cigarette and then run 10 miles at the crack of dawn! My heartfelt sympathy to the entire Christin family.

I was devastated to learn of Mike's death in this morning's South Bend Tribune. It doesn't seem possible that a person so loving, so alive, so vital, could be lost to the world. The Christin family has been special in my life and in the lives of my girls. Dot, Mike's mother, was my closest friend. At one time, we got the notion that we would like to have Mike take us sky diving. He was very enthusiastic and encouraging about the prospect. Unfortunately, we lost our nerve and never carried the idea through. But I think it shows where Mike's derring-do might have come from. He had a great zest for adventure.
My heart goes out to all of his grieving family. There will be many tears shed for Mike, a truly unique and admirable human being. He left us way too soon. My love and sympathy to all of you. Cathy Duncan

What a loss to the Family and the world. Mike was a great friend and inspiring example of living the good life. I cant believe Bob's memorial was the last time I will ever see him in this world. My friend, my BUD/s swim buddie and roommate... Mike, I miss you. Solid man, cool under pressure, head screwed on straight... Just a few traits that come to mind. Without Mike's help this skinny kid from Michigan would have never made it through SEAL training. Gone but not forgotten... Peace.

Mike was always a great cousin to talk with. I saw him last when he visited Columbus with his father. He will be truly missed. God bless his family. I know my dad was right there to greet him in heaven along with his parents.

I remember my cousin Mike asking to hold my 3 mos old son Joseph at the Illinois family reunion in 2008 and telling me how fast life goes and how quickly children grow up. He had many kind words for us. May he rest in peace. Our prayers are with Teresa and Michael Jr.

I am saddened to hear of Mike's passing. I used to skydive with Mike. He always greeted me with a warm smile and always treated me as an old friend at the drop zone. I have video and photo's of myself that Mike took of me at the drop zone and he never charged me a penny. Great guy! My thoughts and prayers are with you and Mike's family.
