Moon Hyung Lee passed away on October 13, 2017, in Dallas, Texas. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and loyal friend to all who knew and loved him. He was deeply loved for his peaceful, comforting spirit, keen observations, sensitivity, humor, and most of all—his contagious smile.
Our beloved Moon was born in Seoul, Korea, on January 29, 1931, to his parents Jin Gap Lee and Kyung Ran Shin. He is the first of seven siblings to pass in his family, survived by brothers and sisters Myung Soon Lee, Kun Hyung Lee, Chong Hyung Lee, Duk Hyung Lee, Oh HyungLee, and youngest sister, Myung A. Lee, most of whom reside in Seoul, Korea. Moon was a faithful husband to his wife of forty years, Kyung (Kay) Lee (d. 2003), and is survived by his daughter Jae Sook Lee of Dallas, Texas, and son Dr. Song Young Lee, daughter-in-law Eileen Lee, and grandchildren Claire, Grace, Matthew, Catherine, Anne Marie, and Elizabeth Lee, all of Colleyville, Texas. Moon had a very rich and full life characterized by serving others. Most notably, he was an honorable veteran of the Korean War in which he bravely fought in 1952-1953. More recently, he served as an elder at Young Nak Presbyterian Church in Plano, Texas. Moon was an avid adventurer. He was awarded and acknowledged in many ways for his loveand success in mountain climbing expeditions with his lifelong team, The Alpine Club. His greatest accomplishment was reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with the Hanyang University Alpine Team at the age of seventy-six. All of Korea acknowledged this accomplishment making front page news that year. Moon graduated from Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea, with a degree in Civil Engineering which served his family well until his move to Dallas, Texas, in 1968. His ongoing career as a photographer for the Korean community helped capture years of special moments for many. With an eye for the arts, he was given the position as judge for the Art Competitions serving the youth of the YMCA in Dallas. He retired from photography and started his own trophy and engraving business with which he was able to share and celebrate the accomplishments of many until his sudden passing. His greatest joys, however, were the careers and accomplishments of his children Jae and Song, as well as his adored grandchildren. Fourteen years ago Moon made a decision to join his daughter Jae for weekly lunches on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while spending every Wednesday with Song’s family where He cherished the privilege to serve in any way that he could, whether that involved playing with a younger child, talking with an older grandchild, or cooking a meal for all.
He will be remembered for his faithfulness and love for Jesus, his sacrificial devotion to his children and grandchildren, his adventurous spirit, and his wonderful smile. He leaves behind his dear friend, Mrs. Ahn. We are most grateful to our heavenly Father for the faithful, loving, and honorable legacy of Moon Hyung Lee.
