Nola Guest Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2017.
After a long and hard-fought battle with cancer, Nola Weaver Guest passed away peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2017, in The Woodlands, Texas, surrounded by her family.
Nola Lorraine Weaver was born at home in Gulf, Texas, on June 26, 1933. She was one of six children, born to Frank Edward Weaver and Georgia Clementine Mullins. Nola enjoyed life in the country from harvesting and canning fruits and vegetables to riding her horse bareback. Nola attended Boling High School where she played volleyball and basketball, was an officer for the F.H.A. and Spanish Club and a flag bearer in the band. As a "Child of the Great Depression," she had an appreciation for all and a desire to live a full, but frugal, life.

Nola's passion for learning led her to Houston where she attended business school and worked for Humble Oil and Refinery Company. She was introduced to Edgar Ash by his sister, Marie Ash Dawson, and they were married on June 4, 1955. They had two children, Jayla and David, and moved to San Marcos where Nola obtained a degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Texas State College. There she raised her children while going to school, working part time and ultimately becoming a teacher. Her next adventure was moving to Conroe where she and Edgar owned and successfully managed the Roadrunner Roller Rink for many years. Eventually she moved to Woodlands, which she called home. She married Marv Provost, learned to golf and became extremely involved in the golfing community and the Ladies Golf Association. When her son-in-law started DS Recreational Services and Progressive Commercial Aquatics, she offered advice and became the Controller or "City Hall" as they called her. She quickly became a cornerstone in the company and enjoyed a long career until she retired at the age of 80. She considered this one of her greatest achievements. After retirement, Nola reconnected with her long lost sweetheart, Floyd Guest. On December 26, 2011, they were married and began to travel the world together.

Nola had a variety of great interests in her life from music to genealogy to traveling. She challenged herself to learn as much as possible and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others. She spoke three languages and traveled across six continents throughout her extraordinary life. She was always looking for a new adventure and had many great travel companions including Bill Hilty, Midge Krieg, Aletha Cahill, Ginger Metzler, Judy Bell and Nancy Brown. All who had the pleasure of making her acquaintance quickly became friends and were welcomed like family. She was a woman of great faith and proud of her strong Southern roots. Nola could often be heard singing a tune or playing one of her many musical instruments and had an uncanny ability to make one feel special, as if they were the most important person in the room. While she enjoyed many gratifying hobbies, her greatest love of all was her family.
Nola is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Frank Weaver Jr, Loueen Simpson, Yvonne Kuykendall, Fannie Merle Slone; and many, many other dear friends.

Nola is survived by her husband, Floyd Guest; children and their spouses, David Ash and Lois, Jayla Ash Davis and Chris; their father, Edgar Ash and Janat; step children, Mary Ann Provost, Victoria Guest, Emory Guest and Nikki, Alyson Guest Stanley and Brent; sister, Anne Carrington and Michael; brother-in-law, Lynn Kuykendall; brother-in-law, Harold Ash and Martha; sister-in-law, Marie Ash Dawson; grandchildren, Stephen Ash, Erin Ash Kuni and Scott, Paige Ash, Kaley Davis and fiancée Brian Urbanczyk, Taryn Davis Leto and Russell, Emory Sularz, Georgia Sularz, Elisa Storyk, Cole Guest, Anderson Guest; and great-grandson, Luca Jed Leto.

Also surviving are nieces Linda Silhavy Weaver, Nelda Silhavy Perkins, Frankie Slone Walker, Darlene Slone Mercer, Lynette Kuykendall, Monica Simpson, Denise Ralph and Keith, Devrie Harwood and AJ, Michelle Vela and Roberto, nephews Frank Silhavy III, Ted Slone Jr. and Patti, John Ralph Slone and Roger, Wayne Kuykendall and Jeanette, Gordan Kuykendall, Wendell Simpson, Dainon Ingram and Mercedes, Brendan Ash and Rachel and Steve Ash.

Mom you touched the lives of everyone you met regardless of generation. You inspired all through your zest for life, keen sense of humor, grace and warm heart. We will carry your strength and love with us forever.

The family will be receiving visitors at Forest Park Funeral Home in The Woodlands Texas on November 9, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Nola's Life will be at The Woodlands United Methodist Church in the Robb Chapel on November 10, 2017, from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. followed immediately by a reception in the church library.

So many happy memories with my friend, Nola and I miss her a lot. One memory was when we went on a tour of the Holy Land. We were both committed to our love of Christ. On the tours, because of Nola´s curiosity, the group often would have to wait for Nola to catch up. Tour guide brought Nola to the front so he could corral her. We would break out laughing

As a pre-teens, Anne Marie and I warmly recall Nola and the family from when Mickey and Naomi took us visiting, then later roller-skating at the rink. The joy and warmth they exuded - especially Nola - will always bring a smile. *So* glad Nola tracked us down last year to say hello.
Thoughts and Hugs with you.

What can I say about a woman that has been an inspiration to me for over 30 years. Nola had such curiosity and spirit and passed this down to her daughter and granddaughters and all who met her. She gave me the strength to tear down narrow boundaries and look at the world with wonder.

Our dearest Nola. We love you so much and have treasured every memory shared with you. You taught us so much about life and demonstrated bravery and grace during the toughest of times. We enjoyed laughing with you and sharing stories. Watching you and Floyd cross off "bucket list" items on your travels set a standard for what we should all strive to achieve. You were a grandmother to our boys and they always felt the love you had for them. I will forever be grateful for the influence you had in their lives. With love and deepest appreciation-

The almost nine years I had with you, Nola, as my sweetheart and wife were so wonderful of which words cannot express. We both had our faith in God and Jesus so no doubt Heaven will be our home as promised. I will join you soon, my Angel in Heaven.

We had great times together and I loved your happy face and your love for LIFE. It won't be long before we all meet you in Heaven.
Loved it when you played the piano and we sang and laughed, hysterically.
Love you forever, Ginger Metzler, now living in Lubbock, TX.

Davis Family, and Guest Family - Aunt Nola was so precious to my Mother and to me. She and Mother, Agnes, spent time together through the years and Nola always included me in the Weaver activities. She was the glue that held us together. Had it not been for her my connection to the Weavers might have faded away. I'm so thankful that she did not allow that to happen. I'm sure her brother, my dad, Frank (Jr.) has much to thank her for in watching over me since his death. I love the Weavers so very much. Words can't express my respect and love for Nola and all the Weavers. We will all miss her deeply.

Dearest Floyd and family. How I will cherish the memories of your precious Nola when we met her as a member of the Heritage Trails DAR chapter. Her gorgeous SMILE lit up the room. To find such great happiness in these years you were married blesses my heart. What an incredible family full of so much love and devotion for each other. All of the pictures reflect that happiness. So thankful to have known
her. Ted and I send all of our love and prayers for comfort and peace! We know she is resting in the arms of Jesus and we will see her agin. "WELL DONE GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT" Matthew 25:23
