Paul Beress Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 26, 2017.
Mr. Paul Jay Beress, son of Goldie and the late Sidney Beress and the late Richard Beress (younger brother), was born May 31, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in Sherman Oaks, California where he discovered his deep passion for jazz and drumming through his father's love for the saxophone. Paul left home young and traveled, playing music and rubbing elbows with some of the greats in music and television.

He served in the US Army in broadcasting and also played when the opportunity allowed. Paul attended Ulysses S Grant High School graduating in 1964. He then went on to receive his masters in History from CSUN [California State University in Northridge attending 1964-1968]. Paul enjoyed long deep discussions on the subject and he greatly cherished

His career and focus for the next 39 plus years, evolved into sales and marketing. Taking products from conception to sale, following his clients for years. [Never walking away and continued part time until he no longer could].

He continued his passion in music throughout his life and would make frequent trips to Phoenix where he'd meet up with "my Italian friends", enjoying poker, great food and the occasional cigar. Also, staying with and visiting his former wife and forever partner, daughter, granddaughter, grandson, grandkids, great-grandkids and dogs there. He loved to read, his favorites being Alice in Wonderland (anthology) and a Tale of Two Cities. He also expressed his creativity thru poetry and writings.

Paul was a comedian in his own right and left a few jaws dropped in his path [including, of late, his cardiologist, which he told he'd see him in 3 years]. He loved to eat and enjoyed watching the food channels [towards the end stated he could even taste it and it helped [he grinned].] Paul had his local restaurant favorites which have already missed his presence, humor and said he would be greatly missed.

He is continuing to show his great appreciation for the arts through his donation of the Paul Jay Beress Endowment in the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center of the Performing Arts, The Soraya. This includes the donation of his collection of instruments.

His amazing adventures in life are deeply cherished by his friends, co-workers and especially his family. Paul leaves behind his beautiful spunky mother, Goldie Beress, 95, whom he expressed great honor for always being selfless and keeping busy with the activities of her boys. She checked on them daily and to the end, as they did with her.

Also, former wife and forever partner Tamara N. Beress, Kimberly and Jed Schultz [daughter/ son-in-law], Corey Duran [grandson], Katryna and Jeff Neice [granddaughter and husband], Xandir and Areiya [great-grandkids], Ryan, Michael and Daniel [honorary great-grandkids].

The wonderful and supportive family of his younger brother; Wendy Beress (sister-in-law), nieces and nephews; Michelle and Greg Thomas with baby Havanna, Jennifer and Justin Jackson - little ones, Pierce and Piper, Rachel and Bill Lauesen with baby Dylan, Debra and Matt Mangalin with baby Teo, and David Beress.

Cousins; Bonnie Class and Jeannie Class.

His Compassion, Humor and Love will be forever felt and live through us.
