PAUL LOVE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 15, 2010.
Dr. Paul A. Love passed away peacefully on December 9th, 2010, at his home in Bradenton, FL. Paul was the son of the late Arthur and Madge Love. He was born on January 19th, 1926. Dr. Love was a decorated combat veteran of the Korean War, rising to the rank of lieutenant (United States Navy), previously having served with distinction with the Merchant Marine in WWII, surviving numerous north Atlantic runs to resupply Murmansk, Russia. Dr. Love earned a first mate's (officer) license in the Merchant Marine with no formal education. Dr. Love, without a high school diploma, was accepted to UCLA under the GI Bill, studied as a Fulbright scholar at the University of London, and eventually received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in English from UCLA and taught at several different universities. He published a book (Voyages) about his life in 2006 which describes many of his life accomplishments. Paul was predeceased by his brother, Arthur, and sisters, Dorothy, Peggy, and Louise. He is survived by his three loving sons, Evan (wife, Cynthia) of Niskayuna, NY, Philip (wife, Lynne) of Lisbon, CT, and Daniel (wife, Donna) of Bradenton, FL; his grandchildren, Jessica, Brian, Kiera, Andrea, Alison, Alex, and Ethan; his step-grandchildren, Andrea, Ashlee, Garrett, Jenna, and Lily, and his great-grandson, Jordan. Dr. Love is also survived by his beloved brother, Bruce (wife, Shirley), and 53 nieces and nephews (through great great-grand's). Ken Ramsey and Ricki Baker also had a special place in Paul's life. He had a wonderful group of friends at the Water's Edge Retirement Community. Dr. Love traveled extensively worldwide and loved new adventures. He was an avid reader and also enjoyed writing, opera, music, theater, politics, traveling, and his family. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
