Dear Stothart family, I was shocked to hear of the passing of Paul. I played hockey with Paul at Queen's and have fond memories of him leading the signing on the way back from long road trips. I caught up with him at the MAC a couple of years ago and even though we had not seen each other in many years he was still as I remembered: kind and with an infectious smile. He was a good man.

The Stothart Family

Belated condolences; I first met Paul at Ridgemont HS; likewise later on his brothers Art and Ritch who came to coach a school team I was on. My best memory of Paul however was after high school when we did summer work together for Geodetic Survey of Canada in Western Canada (previously noted in photos). So much fun we all had in the two summers we worked together...Paul always played a big part in them.

To Karen & Family. We just wanted to express our deepest sympathies for your loss. We had many years of great hockey with Paul and your family. Paul made a great impact on our son Michael. He made him play to his fullest capacity. He will be missed. Really missed. We send you our best wishes at this time. Kerry, alex, Michael & Peter.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I knew Paul as a boy. It does not surprise me at all, that he became so accomplished as a man. We lived around the corner from each other, spent most of our classes in public school together, and in highschool, I always sat in front of him. Most of this time was spent dealing with his love of Agent Maxwell Smart. I wish I hadn't lost touch with him. He always made me laugh, which always got me in trouble. He always acted so innocent.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the Stothart family,
I met Mr. Stothart five or six times through my government work in meetings with MAC. When I saw this sad news my first thought was, "What a class act he was". I forwarded the news to my retired employee who had also met him over the years and he responded "This is very sad. He was truly a gentleman". He made a remarkably good, memorable impression.
My sincere sympathy to you.

Dear Karen and family, I had the pleasure of meeting you when you lived on Reid Ave. I remember early weekend mornings when Paul would round up the kids and head over to Richmond Rd. to a local diner to have breakfast with the children. He said that he wanted you to have a chance to sleep-in. That's when I knew that he was truly a wonderful husband and loving father.

We were very saddened to hear of Paul's passing. I have had the pleasure of knowing Paul since Peewee hockey. I played hockey was with Paul, coached by his brother Art, when we were around 8-10 years old. Everything I know about team sports started with the Stotharts. I learned how to play together as a team and how hard work and determination not only won championships (for in those days we were champions), but was the ultimate expression of fun.

Paul and I met up again in high school, would play road hockey at Alta Vista public school on the weekends and it brought back such great feelings of --belonging. That team spirit where everyone knew what to do just clicked again. We played basketball on the Ridgemont High school team and played various intramural sports. It was such a joy playing with Paul. He was a silent leader, leading with his great skill and ability to focus in on the gritty details that made him such a winner. He had a great sense of humour and wit and together with that smile, we shared some very fine moments of winning in playing sports together.

I ran into Paul and his son at a football game at Lansdowne Park whenever a football team last played there, and once again, a feeling of familiarity and belonging washed over me. He smiled with his very special smile, and we chatted about - sports. It was great to see him.

I can say I have known Paul a long time. And I will continue to know him for as long as am alive. He is part of who I am since we shared many shared experiences in our formative years as budding athletes.

My deepest condolences to the Stothart family.

So sorry to hear of Paul passing - he was a great athlete and inspiration to me, a skier but a really terrible skater who had never played hockey. He opened a window on a type of hockey I didn't know existed - when there was no one at the local rink, Paul, Jeff, Peter and I drove through the Glebe and Ottawa South and over to Hintonburg till we found a scrappy bunch of kids, threw the sticks into the middle and played for hours what I thought was crazy fun shinny!!
Thrilling!!

My dear Stothart family,

I think of you often and your heart-connection with my family. You were warmly influential for me in my youth. I am saddened to hear of Paul's passing and I feel for the grief that you are experiencing. I remember Paul as a boy and I can see that little boy in his printed picture.

Dear Karen, Alex, Sarah and Julia,
Please accept our condolences and expression of sadness for the passing of Paul. His commitment to passing on his love of hockey and sharing his knowledge and appreciation of the game to the next generation of hockey enthusiasts means that although he will be missed, he will not be forgotten by those of us who were members of his extended hockey family. While coaching with Paul, I was always struck by his suggestions for players to "put the puck into the quiet areas of the ice" when there weren't obvious options to make a play. Like many of us, I am going to seek one of those quiet areas to think about Paul, a good, intelligent man with a quiet wit, now gone too soon.
Again, our deepest condolences to Paul's family from Bill, Joanne, James and Paul Floch

Karen, Sarah, Alex, and Julia,
I am so very sorry to hear of your loss.
I only met Paul once when he came to speak to a class at Queen's. Another graduate student and I were fortunate to be invited to join with our professor and Paul for lunch. Our lively and interesting discussion revealed what a lovely person Paul was, and how committed he was to making a difference in the world. He was so generous with his time, giving back and motivating students here at Queen's. I am an older student who has returned to do doctoral work...so we shared a discussion about time at Queen's as undergraduates and of our children: his love for you all and hopes for your future was so apparent even in a single conversation. I hope you are comforted in knowing that Paul made a deep impression on those he met and that he will be very much missed. Thinking of you all.
