Paul Voskuil Obituary

Voskuil Paul K. Voskuil of Hudson, WI, lost his life to esophageal cancer on Sept. 11, 2003. He was born on Dec. 17, 1927 in St. Paul, MN. He was the son of Jesse B. and Ione (Knight) Voskuil. He moved to Hudson 7 years ago, having lived in Baldwin, WI for 15 years, Minneapolis, MN for 32 years and Toledo, OH for 21 years. Paul was a retired partner of Ernst and Young. His professional affiliations included the American Institute of C.P.A.'s; the Minnesota Society of C.P.A.'s; the Ohio Society of C.P.A.'s; and the Institute of Management Accountants. Other memberships included Kiwanis Club of Downtown St. Paul; St. Paul Athletic Club; The Toledo Club; Kiwanis Club of Downtown of Toledo and Brandywine Country Club. He was a board member and President Elect of Kiwanis Club of Downtown Toledo. After early retirement he became involved with many civic and community activities. He was a board member and Treasurer of the Toledo Zoo for 12 years and he also served on several other boards and committees. He chaired one Lucas County Ohio Committee and served on another that developed a solid waste management plan for the county. He was deeply involved in bringing "911" Emergency Calling System to Lucas County. He was active in several churches during his lifetime. He was a member of Valley Community Presbyterian Church, Parkway United Church of Christ, Minneapolis, and Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Toledo. He was a very active member of Glendale Presbyterian Church in Toledo. He was treasurer for 12 years, a choir member and Elder and was deeply involved in rebuilding after a disastrous fire. After moving to Hudson, WI, he became active in the First Presbyterian Church, as a choir member, Elder, and Assistant Treasurer. He felt very privileged to participate in "The Philosophical Gentlemen's" luncheon group in Hudson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Galen F. Voskuil. Survived by Gloria, his beloved wife of 54 years; his daughter, Kathleen (Andrew) Wotteen; son, Thomas; and grandson, Matthew Bregant. He is also survived by special sister-in-law, Carol (Anton) Roggemann; special cousin, Betty Ellingson; niece, Ellen (Lance) Haines; and nephews, Jesse and Daniel Voskuil. Also many other cousins and friends. In keeping with his life's goal of helping people, he requested that his body be given to The Mayo Foundation to be used for educational and research purposes. The family prefers any memorials go to Mayo Foundation for Cancer Research or First Presbyterian Church of Hudson, WI. The memorial service will be at First Presbyterian Church, 828 Third Street, Hudson, WI at 2:00 PM on Sept. 20, 2003.
