Philip E. McNeil of South Elgin Funeral services for Philip E. McNeil, 24, of South Elgin, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Born Sept. 11, 1978, in Elgin, he passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2003, in Gilroy, Calif. Burial will be private. Philip had been a resident of the South Elgin and Elmwood Park area for most of his life. He was employed by Wind Walkers Motorcycle Shop in Naperville. He was also a veteran serving in the Army. He was the son of Steven McNeil of South Elgin and Launn McNeil of Cape Coral, Fla.; maternal grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hansen of Elgin; brother of Kerrie (Chris) Fay of Sycamore, Holly Staley-McNeil of South Elgin, Rachel Staley of South Elgin, Frank McNeil of South Elgin, Michael (Mandie) Sommers of South Elgin and Matthew Staley of Portland, Ore.; and uncle of six nieces and nephews. Philip was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Elizabeth McNeil; his step-sister, Courtenay Hayworth; and by his niece, Cassidy Sommers. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
